Despite the overwhelming atmosphere in the room, Charles remained composed as he walked over at a steady pace.
“Dad, I’m back.” He greeted Dom, who was seated at the head of the table, then turned his the woman beside him. Jane, you’re here too?”

Jane Sparrow was his sister–in–law. Five years ago, his elder brother passed away in a car accident, which is why he returned to take over the Hensleys.
After the accident, Jane and Hugh moved out, saying they couldn’t bear to stay in the house surrounded by memories.
Dom’s expression was stern as he fixed his gaze on him, his tone heavy. “Where were you? Why are you only coming back now?”
Charles raised an eyebrow, finding the question somewhat amusing. “Dad, I’m a grown man. Coming home a little late isn’t a big deal, is it?”
Of course, he knew the real reason his father was asking–he wanted to know if he had been with Jessica.
Dom let out a heavy snort. “That woman, Jessica–where is she? She ruined the banquet and just walked away like nothing happened, and you actually took her with you?”
Jane had been waiting for this moment. Now that Dom had brought up the topic, she couldn’t hold back any longer. “Charles, Jessica is trouble. She betrayed Hugh five years ago, and now that she’s back, she must have ulterior motives. You need to stay away from her.”
“Exactly! Jessica isn’t as simple as she looks. Back then, I was blind enough to treat her like a sister. I only found out later that she was two–timing Hugh, fooling around behind his back. I can’t believe I ever trusted her!” Rhea added, looking aggrieved.
She was still furious that her anniversary banquet had been ruined.
Not only that, but Jessica had pushed her to the brink of losing control in front of everyone; completely shattering the elegant image she had worked so hard to maintain. She wished she could make Jessica disappear that very second!
But what unsettled her the most was what Jessica had whispered in her ear. Had Jessica found out something?
Subconsciously, she placed a hand over her lower abdomen, her body trembling slightly.
Hugh noticed her shaking and assuming she was still upset, he pulled her into his arms and gently patted her back comfortably.
Charles listened to their criticisms of Jessica without any change in expression. His voice was calm. “What does any of this have to do with me? She was my date tonight. If someone tries to

“Did you not hear what they just said? She’s a manipulative woman! What good could possibly come from having her around?” Dom was convinced by Jane’s words and was adamant about keeping Jessica away from his son.
Charles remained unbothered. “Do you have any proof that she’s the kind of woman you claim she is? Or are you just condemning her based on hearsay?”
“There is proof! We have photos!” Rhea blurted out in a panic.
“Oh? Then where are those photos?” Charles asked casually.
Rhea’s face darkened. Those photos were long gone,
Five years ago, after the wedding, Hugh tried to find them. But the media player was mysteriously broken, and the USB drive containing the photos was destroyed. To make matters. worse, they never figured out who had leaked the pictures in the first place.
The wedding had been crowded, and no one had paid close enough attention at the time.
That single piece of evidence proving Jessica’s infidelity had vanished into thin air.
Seeing that they had no proof, Charles’s tone turned indifferent. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be heading upstairs.”
“Stop right there!” Dom suddenly snapped..
Charles turned back. “Something else, Dad?”
“You are to fire Jessica first thing tomorrow!” Dom ordered firmly.
Charles frowned slightly. “Dad, she hasn’t done anything wrong. Firing her for no reason–what do you think the other employees will say? This kind of injustice won’t happen at Vertex Group.”
He paused, then

“I told you all before–Jessica is dangerous. Otherwise, why would so many men be drawn to her?” Rhea added, fanning the flames.
Hugh stayed silent, his expression growing darker at Rhea’s words.
Noticing Dom’s worried look, Jane suddenly had an idea. “Dad, Charles isn’t getting any younger. Why not find him a good wife as soon as possible? That way, he won’t be swayed by women with bad intentions.”

Jane thought momentarily before saying, “Dad, why don’t you leave this to me? I’ll make sure he marries someone suitable.”
Dom gave her a skeptical look. “You?”
Jane smiled confidently. “Since Mom’s not here anymore, it only makes sense for me to take charge of his marriage.”
Dom fell silent for a moment, then finally nodded. “Fine. Someone needs to keep him in line.”
