As Jasper spoke, his eyes remained alert, scanning the area around them

Summer, hearing this, shook her little head so vigorously it looked like a rattling toy, her wide eyes full of innocent confusion. Clearly, she didn’t understand why Jasper was asking her such a question

What did you see?Jasper’s mind tightened, his muscles tensing even further

If there was no gun or drugs, could the old man have explosives strapped to him? Was Summer seeing explosives

The thought made Jasper break into a cold sweat. If it were explosives, things could get really Jcomplicated

Summer stared at Jasper’s increasingly somber face, bewildered. Her tiny face wrinkled up like a dried fruit, her confusion growing deeper

With a flash of her big, round eyes, she shook her head again, her voice firm and childish, I didn’t see anything!”

Jasper’s face froze in place, his body stiffening as he stared at Summer with a raised brow. She was so adamant, so sure of herself. He couldn’t help but raise his voice again, needing confirmation, Are you sure? Really?”

Summer nodded vigorously, her head shaking up and down like she was pounding garlic

Jasper’s taut muscles relaxed immediately, and he couldn’t help but step back, leaning heavily against the side of the train carriage. It took a moment before he lowered his gaze to the small figure in his arms. Then why did you say that man was a bad guy?”

Summer gave him a puzzled look. You said so!”

Jasper sighed, a smirk tugging at his lips as he pulled at the corner of his mouth in disbelief. I only said that the janitor from that accident had been bribed. Not everyone’s been bribed! And besides, that man was a foreigner; you saw a Drakorian!”

Suddenly, Summer’s face lit up, as if struck by a bolt of inspiration. She gasped, her expression suddenly one of realization

Her large, dark eyes sparkled with excitement, and she beamed. His neck!”

Seeing Jasper still clueless, Summer’s face flushed red with urgency. She pointed at his face, articulating clearly, Black! Then, her finger swiftly moved to his neck, emphasizing, White!”

Her finger traced the contrasting areas, clearly pointing out the mismatched featureshis face just didn’t look right

Jasper didn’t think much of it, but looking at how serious Summer was, her insistence finally

about we check out the train attendant’s break room, see if we can find out anything about the janitor? If there really is such a person, then we’ll figure out what’s going on. If not

He trailed off, thinking that maybe Summer had just been influenced by the things he’d said. earlier and misjudged the situation

Summer, however, could read him like a book. She gave him a slightly concerned look, her eyes speaking volumes, silently asking herself, Why is Uncle’s intuition so bad

If that janitor really had no ulterior motives, why had he given them that malicious, sidelong glance when they entered the carriage earlier

When she had locked eyes with the man, there had been no real malice in his gazejust a hollow smile, one that felt artificial, like a paintedon grin

That glance earlier, filled with hostility, was almost certainly directed at Jasper

So clear was the situation in Summer’s mind, yet Jasper didn’t seem to feel any of it

Summer sighed inwardly, looking at Jasper, her gaze hinting a message. Forget it. I’ll cover for you if things go wrong. She then nodded

Jasper caught the look, and it made him smile. His lips curved upward as he reached out and gently pinched her stillchubby cheek, muttering in mock exasperation, I never said I completely trust him! What’s with that look? You think I’m an idiot?”

Summer swatted his hand away, grumbling as she turned her face, You can’t even take care of Grandma, useless!”

Jasper’s face darkened, almost as though he wanted to show her how much was in his bank account, to prove his worth

But Summer didn’t seem interested in discussing his supposed uselessness any longer. With a firm finger pointing forward, she announced with a sharp, clear voice, Let’s go!”

Seeing how urgent she was, Jasper sighed in resignation and scooped her up, continuing his stride. toward the front of the train

Summer, still in his arms, stayed quietly nestled in his hold, her eyes darting around, taking in everything as they walked

After passing through a couple of carriages, she blinked and looked up at Jasper, her face showing a mixture of regret and confusion. Why aren’t there any bad guys?”

Jasper couldn’t help but smirk, his face twitching. If every carriage had bad guys, then this train was a total mess. Could it even move at all

The human trafficker from earlier was just an accident!he explained with a hint of exasperation. Reaching the break room, Jasper knocked lightly on the door, but it wasn’t locked. With a soft
