- 7.
This time, Grant didn’t stop the doctors from
saving me because of Star’s bleeding wound.
But he was still very worried about Star.
So, after a private consultation with the
doctor, he wheeled Star into my operating
room.
While I was undergoing surgery, I had to
donate blood to her.
Before I lost consciousness, the last thing I
said to Grant was, “This time, I’m really about
to die as you wished. Must you be satisfied?”
Г
Grant was somewhat broken, his eyes red as
he apologized.
But I no longer needed his false remorse.
I woke up after the surgery.
Intense pain filled my body; I had no strength
to speak.
Star was wheeled into my room.
Grant stood between us, silently listening to
the doctor explain my condition.
He was very quiet throughout the process.
When the doctor mentioned that I might have
trouble conceiving in the future, he looked up
sharply at me.
I clearly saw tears running down his cheeks.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry…”
He came to me and knelt down.
He took my cold hand and pressed it to his
cheek.
“Honey, I didn’t know it would be this.
serious… Please, yell at me…”
I had no energy to resist.
I turned my face away.
Seeing this, Star sobbed and called out to
him.
“Grant, my hand hurts so much. Am I dying?
Come look at me, okay?”
Her voice made Grant freeze.
I could sense his struggle.
His apology, his remorse, were just
momentary impulses.
His true love was elsewhere.
Sure enough, as Star’s sobbing grew louder,
he let go of my hand and went to comfort
her.
“Star, where does it hurt? Grant will blow on
it for you.”
Hearing his gentle coaxing, I cried again.

The doctor looked at me sympathetically and
sighed as he left the room.
