At that moment, several girls who were close to Amelie were the first to criticize me. “Scarlett, we’re all sorry about what happened to your parents. But it’s in the past now. Why are you still giving Amelie a hard time about it?”
Meanwhile, Amelie pretended to defend me and continued, “No, please don’t blame Scarlett. My parents really did get into the accident because of me. If I hadn’t seen that elderly woman with several children standing by the roadside that day, I wouldn’t have told my dad to hit the brakes. The car wouldn’t have flipped from the sudden stop. Scarlett, I know I made a mistake. But I don’t regret it. If it happened again, I would still warn my dad to brake.”
She cried as she spoke, appearing genuinely emotional, which moved the entire class.
“Amelie, don’t cry. You were just being too kind—this isn’t your fault at all!”
“Scarlett is the one who’s wrong! It was clearly an accident. She has no right to blame you!”
“You probably saved several families that day. Your parents would be proud of you!”
Everyone was defending Amelic. Some of the girls were so
touched by her performance that they started crying with her.

But my disgust toward Amelie had reached its peak. I thought, “Proud? If my parents hadn’t given her a beating on the spot, it would only be because they were too soft–hearted.”
Because the real reason for that car accident was that she had complained about traffic on the highway and insisted my father take a mountain detour. It had been raining that day, making the mountain roads slippery with many sharp turns, which caused the car to lose control, flip over, and eventually plunge off the cliff. After the accident, I was holding my parents‘ mangled bodies, sobbing uncontrollably, while she just sat there in a daze, too afraid to look at the bloody scene. And I had never blamed her for any of this in my previous life.
I stood up angrily and confronted her, “Amelie, how can you say such things? How dare you do this?”
She cried even harder, covering her face while saying, “Scarlett, I’m sorry. If you’re still angry, you can hit me. I won’t fight back…”
I thought, “Hit her? One beating wouldn’t be enough. Mom and Dad were the most important people in my life. It’s one thing if she doesn’t care, but why use them to hurt me? This is absolutely unbearable!”
But as soon as I took a step forward, several self–righteous boys held me back. “Scarlett, you’re going too far. Don’t think you can bully Amelie just because you’re her sister! How can you face your deceased parents by treating Amelie this way? Even if this is a family matter, we won’t stand by and do nothing!”

I wanted to defend myself. But when I opened my mouth, I realized the entire class was looking at me with accusatory eyes.
Amelie wiped her tears and said, “Please don’t be hard on Scarlett. I understand her, really.”
I had to swallow my words. Against her tears, anything I said would seem unreasonable.
Those boys, moved by her tears, forcibly pushed me back into my seat and warned me harshly, “If you ever dare to bully Amelie in class again, we won’t let you off the hook!”
If our homeroom teacher hadn’t arrived in time, I might have been surrounded and attacked by them on the spot.
After school, Amelie asked me to meet her on the rooftop of the teaching building. Her eyes were still swollen, but her tone had completely changed. She said, “Scarlett, do you see? If I didn’t consider our past relationship, I could easily destroy you. Tell me quickly, what kind of woman does Ryan like? If you don’t tell me, I can do even worse things.”
Before she could finish, I slapped her across the face. She looked at me in shock and said, “You…”
I cut her off immediately, “What?”

simple words? And you’re still talking about our past relationship? Amelie, from today on, we have no relationship whatsoever. I don’t know what type Ryan likes, I only know that he will never like you in this lifetime. Do you understand?”
She stood there stunned, unable to react for a long time.
As for me, I had already walked away.
But from her dark expression, I knew she wouldn’t let me off easily. I understood that she still didn’t believe me. But regarding Ryan, the more she knew, the more she would want to avoid facing reality.
