After cleaning and bandaging my wrist, Jason
called, unleashing a torrent of abuse.
“Lindsay, you’re so manipulative. You
reported her to the school. Her teacher called;
she’s threatening suicide! Are you trying to
kill her?!”
“I’ve never met someone so petty! I was blind
to pick someone like you!”
He raged, as if I’d committed a terrible crime.
I ignored his anger. “Maybe she’s just putting
on a show.”
Jason’s voice grew louder. “Tiffany’s
innocent, unlike you, with your wicked
schemes!”
Sure enough, love blinded him to the truth.
“Jason, before I thought you were a two-
timing jerk. Now, even looking at you disgusts
me.”
“If you doubt me, get proof. Call the police,
don’t just accuse me!”
I hung up. The director called; my departure
was moved up to tonight. I had to pack.
Unexpectedly, an hour before my flight, Jason
came home.
He saw my suitcase by the door and smirked.
“Running away? How childish!”
He assumed I couldn’t leave him, since I’d
lived there for years. That’s why he dared to
hurt me. He hadn’t even noticed that all
traces of me were gone from the house.
I remained silent.
“Stop the theatrics. Change your attitude,
maybe I’ll reconsider.”
“Don’t forget tomorrow’s dinner. That’s the
only thing you’re good for now.”
I calmly said, “Okay.”

Fortunately, he only grabbed a shirt and left.
The moment he was gone, I took a cab to the
airport.
On the plane, I deleted every photo and video
on my phone.
I turned it off, tossed the SIM card in the
trash.
As the plane took off, I closed my eyes,
letting go of the past.
I was finally gone from Jason’s life.
