I thought Jason would give up. He didn’t. He
stayed, joining our medical volunteer team.
He searched for injured soldiers. He tried to
win me back through his actions.
But I had no feelings for him anymore.
He seemed to sense my aversion, avoiding
me, only speaking to me when necessary.
Then came another air raid.
く
Protecting medical supplies, I ran into the
danger zone.
As I shielded the medicines, Jason appeared,
taking the shrapnel for me.
To protect me, he suffered a severe leg injury.
In surgery, Jason’s leg was mangled. He was
in excruciating pain, but he gritted his teeth,
silent.
His eyes were fixed on me.
“His leg can’t be saved…”
“To avoid infection… we have to amputate…”
I spoke subtly, knowing the news would be
devastating to him.
Jason’s lips trembled, but he forced a smile.
“It’s okay, as long as you’re safe, a leg is
nothing…
My heart ached. I silently operated with
Ethan.
After the surgery, Jason lay in bed.
He remembered his desperate search for me.
<
He’d called endlessly, trying to find me. He
even used his family connections. He failed.
He finally felt true fear.
He went to the hospital director, begging him
to help.
“Knowing she has no family, why were you so
cruel? Leaving you was the best decision she
ever made!”
He didn’t understand at the time.
Jason believed I needed him for protection
and happiness.
Now he understood. His presence had been
harmful to me.
