I let Finn hold me protectively as I slowly raised my head.
It was Jasper. After just a few days apart, he looked so worn out I barely recognized him.
His eyes were bloodshot, and he charged forward to pull us apart.
But Miku blocked his path.
Like Declan, he hated animals, which is why we never had a dog all those years together.
Jasper impatiently kicked Miku aside.
I was immediately angry.
“What are you doing?”
Ignoring my weakness, I rushed to hold Miku’s whimpering body.
Seeing how I protected Miku, Jasper quickly squatted down, apologizing.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it.””
I pushed him away impatiently.
“Jasper, haven’t you had your revenge? Why keep pestering me? Haven’t you humiliated me enough?”
Jasper lowered his head, his back slightly bent, his voice raspy.
“No, Lydia, I won’t humiliate you anymore. I realize now that those grudges had nothing to do with you. I was wrong.”
“We’ve loved each other for so many years. I love you. I can’t live without you.”
I sighed deeply.
“Jasper, you’re not wrong. It was my mom and I who wronged you first.”
“But there are so many lies and hatred between us. How can we love each other openly again?”
Jasper says he loves me, but I can’t trust him anymore.
I fear that one day this seemingly affectionate man will suddenly demand I apologize to his mom.
I held Miku and slowly moved back to Finn’s side.
“Jasper, before I left, I went to the hospital to see my mom’s body. They said you, as the husband, had already claimed it. Later,
I got a message from Keira saying you mixed her ashes into the cement for road construction.”

I paused, looking at Jasper, who seemed guilty.
“I know you hate her, but I’m forever tied to her. I can’t believe you can love me sincerely, and you shouldn’t.”
Having said so much, I was exhausted. I handed Miku to Finn and turned back to my room.
Finn stood quietly by my side, just like in the past years.
He respected all my choices and tried hard to keep up with me. My choices had nothing to do with him, but he hoped he could still be part of them.
The emotional turmoil was too much, and I fainted before I even touched the doorknob.
This time, I was in a feverish coma for too long. When I woke up, I felt like I’d forgotten many things.
The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes were the two men. One of them quickly pushed the other aside and came closer.
“Lydia, are you feeling better?”
A sudden anxiety washed over me, and I frowned as I gently pushed him away.
“Who are you? Stay away from me. I don’t like you.”
His smile froze, and bitterness filled his eyes.
“Forgotten? It’s just as well.”
During my more than a month of recovery, this man called Jasper was busy helping me, but always left silently when he saw my
disdain.
On the day of discharge, Jasper didn’t show up again.
When I got home, there was a jade pendant hanging on the door.
I was stunned for a moment, then threw it into the neighbor’s renovation trash.
“Seeing this thing makes me uneasy, and my lower abdomen aches.”
Finn pulled me into his arms and whispered:
“I won’t let you hurt anymore.”
Later, Finn and I fell in love over time and had a lovely baby.
Every year, I received a letter full of ramblings about what happened in his year.
That person sued his deceased father, exposing his infidelity.
That person said he would take revenge on his father by never marrying or having children. He wanted to end Declan’s Family.
That person got a dog that resembled Miku.
Whenever I read the letters, Finn got anxious. talways had to kiss him for a long time before he smiled.
Whenever I read the letters, Finn got anxious. I always had to kiss him for a long time before he smiled.
Later, Finn and I took our dog and child to travel the world, and I never received those letters again.
