After kneeling for her, he begged
me to look back
Chapter 1
Seven years of marriage, and my husband,
Jake, had slept his way through half of
Hollywood.
After being pregnant for 39 weeks, his little
mistress, Brittany, insulted a major client at
some stupid wrap party.
To save the deal, Jake wanted me, pregnant
and all, to get on my knees and apologize for
her screw–up.
“You’ve gotta be kidding me,” I said, not
believing what I was hearing.
“I’m practically ready to pop! I can’t just kneel
down, what if I hurt the baby?”
He cut me off, totally dismissive.
“It’s just kneeling! You haven’t exactly been
delicate your whole life, have you?”
He dragged me in front of the client and
forced me down.
All the commotion caused my water to break.
Brittany, the little witch, pinched her nose and
sneered.
“Ew, looks like she peed herself!”
That same day, I almost bled to death during
Meanwhile, photos of Jake and Brittany all
over each other went viral.
When Jake’s sister, Sarah, rushed to the
hospital, I was surprisingly calm.
“You promised me,” I told her. “You said if I
gave him a child, you’d let me go. Can I leave
now?”
Sarah looked hesitant and a little sad.
“Liz, are you sure about this? Jake’s just
being an idiot. He doesn’t appreciate you. Maybe you could…”
Just then, a news alert popped up on her
phone.
It was a video of lake celebrating Brittany’s
He was standing behind her, holding her
hands as she cut the cake.
Brittany was wearing a dress with a high
collar, but you could still see faint hickeys on
her neck.
“Everyone knows Jake can’t stand his wife,”
someone said in the background. “But look at
this birthday party he threw! Mrs. Smith is
one lucky lady.”
Hearing “Mrs. Smith,” Brittany smiled sweetly
and took a business card from the guy.
Some other partygoers started egging them
- on.
“Jake, give the ‘missus‘ a big kiss!”
く
Jake didn’t correct them about Brittany’s
actual role. He just grabbed her by the waist
and planted one on her.
Sarah looked at me, embarrassed.
She obviously thought I’d be crying or
something, and she tried to hug me.
“Liz, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have pushed you
two together. I’m okay with you leaving.”
But I didn’t cry.
I’d already cried all my tears during labor.
“Do you want to see the baby before you
go?”
The word “baby” hit me hard.
く
That was my little one, the thing I almost died
bringing into this world.
Of course I had feelings for it.
Snapping back to reality, I saw Sarah coming
through the door with the baby in her arms.
“Liz, the baby’s so cute! The doctor said it’s a
healthy six pounds…‘

“Stop!” I said, cutting her off.
I turned away, digging my nails into my skin.
Liz, don’t look back.
If you’re really leaving, you can’t get attached.
く
Sarah froze, not moving any closer.
She handed the baby to a nurse and then
furiously dialed Jake’s number.
“Dude, I told you, I’m ‘out of town‘ right now.
Don’t call me,” he said.
“I saw the video of you celebrating with that
bimbo! Am I blind?”
Jake sounded annoyed.
