After losing my memory, my girlfriend fell in love with me.
Chapter 1
I accidentally scratched Sarah’s golden boy.
That night, she hired some goons to snatch
me and break my right hand, the one I use to
save lives.
She stood over me, a sneer on her face.
“He’s a doctor ‘cause he wants to be. You
don’t deserve the same chance.”
“Don’t worry, we’re getting married. You won’t
need that hand anyway.”
Later, my mind was a blank slate. Beaming, I
く
“Hey, has anyone ever told you you’re
gorgeous?”
She dissolved into tears, kneeling and
wrapping her arms around me, whispering
“I’m sorry” over and over.

“Hey, are you okay, Mikey?”
“Mikey! What’s going on? What happened?”
It was a dark and stormy night. Sarah’s goons
had me pinned in an alley a block from my
place.
No stars in sight, just layers of dark clouds
hanging over the horizon.
The alley was silent, except for the wind
howling like a banshee. I could hear my sister,
Jess, freaking out through the phone that had
fallen on the ground.
“Mikey? Talk to me….”
My breath hitched in my throat, the air thick
with dread.
Sarah stood there, staring at me with pure
disdain.
She picked up the phone and hung up on
Jess.
I looked up at her, but one of the guys kicked
me, hard.

“Keep your eyes down!”
“What are you staring at Sarah for? Thinking
you got a shot with her?”
The guy holding my arms leaned in close, his
voice dripping with mockery.
He grabbed my face and gave me a once
over.
“You do kinda look like Danny, now that I see
- it. Guess that’s why Sarah picked you out of a
crowd.”
He shoved me to the ground, yanking my hair
so I was forced to look at Sarah.
I still couldn’t believe she was doing this to
- me.
I looked at her, the words barely escaping my
lips.
“Why?”
She didn’t even glance my way, just tucked a
strand of hair behind her ear.
The guy who kicked me laughed.
“You’re asking why? How dare you cut Danny!
He uses his hands to help people!”
“You’re not even in the same league.”
“Don’t take it personal,” he said, patting my
cheek, “even two of your hands can’t make
up for what you did to him.”
So, Sarah had me dragged out here at
midnight because I’d accidentally scratched
her precious Danny?
All she cared about was him.
Sarah crouched down, looking at my right
hand like it was a piece of trash.
Her voice was cold as ice.
“I can’t let you get in his way.”
“Forget being a doctor. You don’t need it.
“Just stay with me, okay?”
Danny was a golden boy, destined for
greatness. I wasn’t, apparently. I was just
supposed to shut up and be Sarah’s stand-
in?
I scrambled to my feet, shouting, trying to get
the attention of someone walking past.
But Sarah wasn’t stupid. She’d made sure the
street was empty.
I struggled, but the guys were too strong.
They held me down.
My medical textbooks fell out of my bag and
landed on the ground with a thud.
They ripped the books apart.
“No!”
Today was my birthday.
Those books were the last gift my mom gave
<
Sarah saw what happened. She looked almost
sorry.
She knelt down, touching the ripped pages,
feigning sadness.
“It’s okay, honey. You only need me now. You
don’t need any of this.”
I choked back tears, my vision blurring.
I could barely feel the tears on my face.
I was thinking, these books were the only
thing I had left from my mom.
Sarah waved her hand, signaling the guys to
do their thing.
That’s when I realized how screwed I was.
L
“Sarah, you can’t do this!”
They grabbed a metal pipe and swung it
down on my left arm.
The pain exploded through my arm. I
screamed.
I was terrified.
If I couldn’t use my hands, I could never be a
surgeon.
I tried to crawl away.
I was rambling.
My mind was a mess. I just wanted them to
let me go.
く
I grabbed Sarah’s skirt.
“Sarah… please, stop…I need my hands. I’m a
doctor…”
“I’m gonna die… Please………”
She yanked her skirt out of my reach. She
didn’t even look at me.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry… I won’t bother
you anymore, okay? I’ll leave. I’ll go far away,
so you never have to see me again, okay?”
They kept hitting me with the pipe, again and
again.
The pain was so intense, I couldn’t even feel
my right hand anymore.
<
“Sarah… I don’t love you anymore. Just let me
go, okay… I need to be in the operating
room…”
If I couldn’t save lives, I didn’t know what I’d
- do.
I’d give up anything, except my dream.
I crawled in front of her, begging her to stop.
I gave her my last shred of dignity.
But she ignored me. Only when my arm was
broken beyond repair did she signal them to
stop, looking down at me with a sick sense of
pity.
“Don’t worry, we’re getting married.
<
“But you can’t get in Danny’s way.”
I was face–down on the ground, my right
hand numb.
All the pain and humiliation boiled over.
My eyes wide with terror, tears streaming
down my face, I screamed at Sarah.
All the pain and fear turned into a piercing
cry.
“Sarah! I never want to see you again!
“You’re gonna end up alone and m
