- 2.
Amber hit the ground hard, her face twisted
in shock and disbelief.
<
I pointed up at the seal hanging on the wall.
“You moron! Fighting tooth and nail for your client is your job as an attorney!”
Amber started to cry.
“Sue, I’ve never been in court before, wahh…
I was so nervous!”
Ever since she landed at our firm, Amber’s
been pulling this act.
She’s got this “genius” act down, so people
give her big cases she can’t handle.
Then she messes up and cries her way out of
- it.
But this time, this was a man’s life at stake!
“Tommy…
“Shut up!”
دو
I shot Tommy a look that could kill.
“If you can’t handle the heat, get out of the
kitchen! You were so confident when you
took the case, now you can’t even string a
sentence together!”
<
“Are you going to take your client’s place in
prison when things go south?”
Dave, my mentor, stepped in, trying to defend
Amber:
“Sue, it’s her first time, she was just
nervous.”
“You shut up too!”
I snapped.
Dave froze.
I’d never raised my voice at him like that
before.
“Why do you have to be so extra?”
I scoffed.
“She’s crying in court, completely
unprofessional, and you guys are trying to cut
her some slack?”
“If I hadn’t stepped in, do you think our client
would’ve had a chance at a fair trial?”
“Instead of calling out Amber, you’re going
after me!”
く
“Do we need a false conviction for you to see
how important this is?!”
Dave took a step closer.
“Sue…”
I cut him off, dragging him in front of the
seal.
“Look at that thing! Do you even remember
your oath to the Constitution?”
“Can you honestly defend Amber after what
just happened?”
Tommy and Dave looked hesitant, but they
still stood by Amber.
“Enough with the ‘first time‘ excuse. If she’s
so gifted, why did she screw up?”
“You guys are out of your minds! Have you all
forgotten what we stand for?!”
I glared at Amber, all snuggled up to Tommy.
“This isn’t over, and I will not take excuses. If
you defend her again, you are dead to me!”
