- 3.
I am not in the mood to mess around with
anyone.
My fiancé and mentor are a bit taken aback
by my response so they stopped talking for a
minute.
I gave Amber a look and said:
“For the next three months, the firm isn’t
assigning you any new cases.”
“You’ll be helping other lawyers prep their
files, watching how they fight for their
clients.”
“And, next week, I want a full apology at the review meeting.”
With that, I turned and walked away, not
wanting to waste another second on them.
“Wait!”
Tommy called after me.
He had a serious look on his face:

“Amber was still one of the lawyers on this
case, Sue. She needs to get credit for it.”
I turned to Amber, who looked like a deer in
headlights:
“The client should send you flowers for your
help.”
“Sue! She… she needs a win under her
belt…”
I cut him off.
“She contributed nothing to that win.”
“She couldn’t even state the evidence, let
alone argue it. It’s all because of me.”
“If you are so desperate for success then just
ask someone for help. You are asking the
wrong person!”
Tommy was speechless, so he just glared at
- me.
Amber started crying harder, collapsing
against Tommy:
“Sue, how could you say that to me… You’re
being awful.”
I snorted.
“If I hadn’t been there, you’d be getting
shredded by the client’s family right now!”
“Taking credit for other people’s work,” I
sneered. “You’re not good enough, and
karma’s gonna bite you in the ass.”
“If you don’t improve, you can kiss your
career goodbye at this firm.”
