Chapter 7
Chester’s assistant shot Kathy a peculiar look. “Miss, you must be mistaken. I’m here to pick up Miss Sarah.”
The moment those words were spoken, not only Kathy and her parents froze in place, but so did I. Had Chester found out about what happened that night?
A chill surged through me and my voice wavered uncontrollably, “Wait. Pick me up? I wasn’t aware of this.”
“You must have the wrong person. I don’t even know Mr. Miles…”
Kathy, unaware of what transpired that night, turned crimson with anger on the spot. “You slut! I knew you were trying to climb into Mr. Miles‘ bed! You filthy tramp!”
Not willing to let it go, she reached out to grab the assistant, her desperation seeping
into her words.

Everyone knows the one engaged to the Miles Family is the Chandler family‘ s eldest daughter.”
The assistant’s voice was calm but
cutting. “I think you‘ re mistaken. The
person Mr. Miles sent to ‘pick you up is the police.”
“The surveillance footage from the banquet clearly shows you drugging someone. The video has already been retrieved and handed over to the authorities. The police are here today to investigate that incident.”
A stunned silence followed.
Kathy’s mother turned deathly pale, her legs giving out as she collapsed against her husband. Kathy’s eyes widened in disbelief, panic written all over her face.
The neighbors, overhearing the assistant’s words, looked at the family
with disdain.
“She tried to drug Mr. Miles? Is she out of

her mind?”
“Drugging him to get into his bed, then shamelessly declaring herself the future mistress of the Miles Family? What a joke! How can someone be so despicable?”
“Didn’t the last person who tried to drug Mr. Miles end up six feet under? The family is done for this time!”
The assistant sneered, brushing off the sleeve Kathy had grabbed moments ago. Then, they pulled a stack of documents from their bag and tossed them onto the family‘ s faces.
“This is a detailed report of the financial losses Miles Enterprises suffered due to your slander. Take a good look.”
“Mr. Miles is feeling generous and has graciously given you a 50% discount. Just pay 20 million and that should settle things.”
“If there’s no issue, kindly pay up as soon as possible. Otherwise, we’ll proceed with

legal action.”
After speaking, he no longer spared Kathy s pale, stricken face a glance. Instead, he turned and walked over to me.
With a respectful demeanor, the assistant picked up the clothes that had fallen to the ground, neatly folded them and placed them back into my suitcase.
“Miss Holmes, shall we? Mr. Miles has been waiting for quite some time,” he asked me.
I nodded, ignoring the curious and judgmental gazes around us and followed the assistant into the car.
On the way, a wave of nausea hit me and I couldn’t hold back a dry heave.
The assistant, as if prepared for this, quickly handed me a packet of sour dried plums.
My eyes caught the bold words on the packaging: For Pregnant Women Only.
My hand froze mid–motion, clutching my

chest.
Pregnant? Could I really be…pregnant?
I suddenly remembered that my period was overdue this month–a realization that sent a wave of unease surging through me.
Feigning a stomachache, I told the assistant I needed to visit a hospital.
He offered to drive me there, but I was faster. Before he could act, I had already stepped out of the car and hailed a taxi.
Once inside, I sighed in frustration and gave my forehead a light slap.
