Chapter 16

“No, I just learned on the way that 10th–grade students here have already completed the entire high school curriculum. I planned to have her go to school while arranging a tutor for her for a year to ensure she gets into college… But I’m afraid…”
This was the first time Karen felt such acute embarrassment.
It was as if her dignity had been forcefully stripped away, exposing her ugliest vulnerabilities for others to gawk at.
And the one who had caused this embarrassment was her own daughter.
Jagger listened patiently, then offered his advice, “Mrs. Spencer, here’s a suggestion. Once Rosalie finishes the placement test, we can first assess her scores, then ask for her own input, and make a decision based on that. How does that sound?”
Karen opened her mouth, then replied, “All right.”
The placement test lasted three hours. Karen didn’t wait in the principal’s office the entire time. She had been away for over an hour to handle some work before rushing back.
Before she could catch her breath, Adrian led Rosalie into the office.
Karen first glanced at Rosalie, whose cold demeanor remained unchanged from that morning. Then her gaze shifted to Adrian, and a sudden sense of foreboding struck her.
Adrian’s expression was far more severe than before.
Karen thought to herself, ‘Did Rosalie perform terribly on the test? I’ve foreseen it. Well… what could she have possibly learned in the countryside?‘
Karen was even more determined to transfer Rosalie to the 9th Grade.
She walked slowly toward Rosalie, grabbed her hand, and spoke in a measured tone, “Rosalie, I just discussed with Mr. Burnett. Since your foundation is weak, I think you should start in 9th grade. There’s no need to rush.
“Take your time and build a solid base first. By the time you reach 12th grade, you won’t feel overwhelmed. What do you think?”
Rosalie paused and lifted her eyes. Her charming eyes were clear yet indifferent, staring straight at Karen.
Karen’s face, marked by the traces of time, no longer held the indifference of the past few days but showed a hint of warmth… and anxiety.
Those eyes so similar to her own were gazing at her with concern.
For a moment, Rosalie retracted her gaze and replied calmly, “Okay.”
Hearing Rosalie agree so obediently, Karen heaved a sigh of relief.
She had been terrified that Rosalie might make a scene without mercy.
Karen thought to herself, “This kid isn’t as difficult as I thought… Maybe if I talk to her properly, she’ll understand my dilemma.’
“Mr. Burnett?” A cold voice suddenly cut through her thoughts.
*Her foundation is weak? Are you joking?”
Karen froze, looking at Adrian in confusion.
Jagger also furrowed his brow slightly. “Mr. Wade?”
Adrian didn’t bother with pleasantries. He slapped a test paper in front of Jagger and jabbed his index finger toward Rosalie.
‘Fine, I don’t care which grade she’s in. It’s none of my business. But Jagger, I want her in my Olympiad Program.”
Rosalie frowned slightly. “Mr. Wade, I already declined.
Adrian’s expression darkened further. “You can’t refuse. Now, you’re a part of Hodgeson High, you have to follow the arrangement from the principal and teachers.”
Karen stood stunned for a long moment before regaining her senses. “W–what? What does that mean? Olympiad Program?”
Jagger had already skimmed through Rosalie’s test paper, surprise flickering across his face. “Rosalie did this?”
Karen also caught sight of the paper in Jagger’s hand. It was a physics test. There were no scores, just red checkmarks marking every correct answer.

The side she could see showed neat, tidy handwriting with flowing strokes, elegant and refreshing.
More importantly, every visible question was checked as correct.
Rosalie’s paper… was perfect…
Somehow, a wave of embarrassment washed over Karen.
