Chapter 114
Melanie clutched the necklace, her face pale. Gwyneth thought, The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Diana and Melanie have been acting so full of themselves for too long. Betty’s sharp words are just what they need”
Liam paid no attention to Betty and instead said, “Since this porcelain was brought here, let Gwyneth have it now.
Diana’s face turned pale with shock. She was just trying to calm things down. She never meant to give away such valuable porcelain,
Liam looked at her face and suddenly chuckled. “If you’re not willing, forget it. The bond between our families was never that strong to begin with.”
“Of course, they should be returned to their proper owner,” Quentin quickly said. To him, keeping a good relationship with the Lopez family was more important than these two pieces of porcelain, so he immediately put both boxes in front of Gwyneth.
Gwyneth’s nose twitched as she softly said. Thank you, Liam.
“What’s yours will always find its way back to you,” Liam said with a gentle smile, his eyes softening as he looked ar Gwyneth.
Quentin ground his teeth–this was like rearing flesh from his own bones, all just to please Gwyneth, his ungrateful daughter.
As the tension in the room started to fade, a maid announced “Dinner is ready.”
Everyone was getting ready for dinner when Betty told the maid, “Go call Adrian down for dinner.”
Diana and Quentin hadn’t been invited to join them. As Quentin was about to leave, Diana suddenly grabbed his arm when she heard Adrian’s
name
Swallowing her pride, she forced a smile at Gwyneth. “We’ve already said sorry, and you’ve got your things back. Let us stay, please?”
With that, Diana tried to lead Melanie to the table. Melanie looked eagerly toward the staircase, hoping she might get to eat with Adrian.
Gwyneth couldn’t care less. They could try to mooch a meal, it wouldn’t bother her at all.
Betty was disgusted to the core by Melanie’s fawning look. She blocked her path with a sneer and said, “If you’re that desperate for male attention. darling, can have a dozen ready for you by tomorrow.
But Adrian is about to get engaged to Kate Thornton. A girl like you should know her place–stop chasing after a man who’s already promised to someone else.”
“What?” Melanie’s face went dark. She was about to ask Adrian for answers, but Betty blocked her completely. The atmosphere turned cold instantly.
Lian’s face darkened with displeasure. He said sternly, “Betty, sit down and mind your manners at the table.”
Betty reluctantly sat down, her eyes sweeping over Melanie with a clear warning:
Liam didn’t try to keep them for dinner. Quentin immediately realized that and pulled Diana and Melanie toward the door. But Melanie’s eyes filled with tears as she protested, “I’m not leaving! I need to ask Adrian about his engagement with Kate”
“Enough” Quentin exploded, his face flushing red under the Lopez family’s disapproving looks. He pulled Melanie hard and snapped, “You’re a decent girl, yer you shamelessly throw yourself at him! We’re leaving now!”
Diana seemed to struggle, but Quentin dragged her away roughly. The whole family made a humiliating exit, bringing the farce to an abrupt end. Adrian joined the dinner. After overhearing the commotion, he behaved obediently.
Gwyneth was happy. She had gotten her mother’s porcelain back and watched her stepsister and stepmother get what they deserved, so her appetite returned. Harrison served her some soup.
“Thank you,” Gwyneth said with a bright smile. She knew she had to show some love in front of Liam.
Harrison watched Gwyneth’s cheerful smile. He casually pulled back his hand, and then served more of her favorite dishes.
Liam watched and nodded approvingly. Adrian saw that, and a flash of resentment appeared in his eyes.
After dinner, Harrison still had to go back to the office to handle some in work after the press conference. Still, he insisted on taking the long way and drove Gwyneth back to Teloria Apartment.
As Gwyneth walked away, she suddenly heard a familiar voice call out, “Gwennie.
