Chapter 123

“As long as we know where she is,” Gwyneth said casually, not caring about the details. She could never figure out how Melanie and her parents worked.
She quickly sent the security footage to Quentin and decided to call it a night.

“Thanks for checking the security footage even though you were drunk,” Gwyneth said as she made some honey water and went back to her room. “Honey water helps with hangovers–drink it, or you’ll have a rough night.”
Gwyneth closed her bedroom door tightly. Harrison ran his fingers through his messy hair and picked up the honey water. He took a small sip, and frowned a little at the sweetness.
“Way too sweet.” Harrison frowned, but he drank every last drop of the honey water even though he usually didn’t like sweets.
Later, Gwyneth woke up to find breakfast waiting for her on the table.
Harrison was already sitting there, dressed perfectly. His suit jacket was over the back of his chair, and he was wearing a neat shirt and tailored pants, finished with brand–new leather shoes. It was a big change from the drunk mess he was.
He poured Gwyneth a glass of milk. “Clyde wasn’t sure what you liked,” he said.
“I’m not picky about breakfast,” she said casually. “Why are you all dressed up today? Got an important meeting or something?” Gwyneth settled comfortably into her se
seat.
During breakfast, the two talked a little about their busy work schedules, acting like business partners. Harrison suddenly said, “A friend of mine is putting together a ceramic show and still needs another ceramic artist.”
“My mom used to know quite a few people in that field,” Gwyneth replied smoothly. “If you want, I can ask around for you.”
Gwyneth thought about her contacts. Harrison smiled, “Thanks. I’ll have my friend get in touch with you.”
“Sure, just tell me if you need anything, Gwyneth said with a professional smile. Helping a friend make connections was no problem at all.
Harrison offered Gwyneth a ride to the Jenkins Group. She thought, “Why turn down a free ride?‘ She accepted without hesitation. Feeling good, Gwyneth arrived at work.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, Melanie, eyes red with anger, rushed at Gwyneth. “Gwyneth, this means war between us!” she shouted, her voice shaking with fury.
Gwyneth twisted Melanie’s wrist behind her back and pressed her against the elevator doors. The icy surface and her arms pulled behind her only made Melanie’s anger burn hotter.
Melanie stared at Gwyneth, voice trembling with rage. “Gwyneth, you’re the one who gave Dad that security footage, aren’t you?”
Melanie cried out, “You made Dad think I was sleeping with some old man, and he slapped me! Dad’s never hit me before. Why are you spreading lies and ruining my reputation? I did everything you told me yesterday.”
In the end, Melanie burst into tears, overwhelmed with sadness. Only then did Gwyneth notice that half of her face was badly swollen. ‘Quentin really didn’t hold back with that slap,’ she thought.
Gwyneth scoffed, “Dad called me in the middle of the night asking where you were, so I checked the security footage, It was your own choice which room you went to. What a pity I missed seeing you get beaten.”
