Chapter 137
Chapter 137
That morning, after a few hours of peaceful sleep, Gwyneth was woken up by a phone call. “Hello, Ms. Jenkins. This is Evan, the person in charge of the ceramic show. Mr. Lopez said I could call you.”
His voice was soft and polite. Still half–asleep, Gwyneth said, “I remember that. What do you need, calling so early?”
Evan said, “For this ceramic show, I want to include your mother’s works. Her pieces are really rare and hard to find. Most people coming will be industry insiders, all eager to see her masterpieces in person.
“Also, since this is a public ceramic show–most of the visitors are industry pros, but there will also be some business owners bringing their kids. I know your mom’s ceramics are priceless.
“For safety reasons, I suggest we show just one real signature piece and use high–quality copies for the rest.”
Evan spoke carefully. Gwyneth knew what was going on–this is normal at public shows.
Her mom’s porcelain was priceless; if anything happened to it, even the organizer, Evan, couldn’t afford to pay for the loss.
So, high–quality copies need to be made for display, while the real pieces can be photographed and put in the catalog for visitors to see.
Gwyneth thought, ‘Well, I’ll have to make the copies myself. Still, if more people get to see Mom’s work–that’s exactly what she always wanted, right?‘
Her mother made each porcelain piece herself–not for awards, not for money, but just to share their beauty with more people.
Thinking of her mom’s bright smile as she made ceramics, Gwyneth couldn’t help but smile too. “Sure,” Gwyneth said kindly, “let’s find a place to meet and talk more about it.”
“That’s great! Just tell me where, and I’ll come whenever you’re ready,” Evan said happily, sounding truly excited. It was clear he wasn’t just an organizer, but a real ceramics fan.
They met at a cafe. Evan was warm and polished. When talking business with Gwyneth, he was calm and organized. It only took half an hour to agree on the main plan.
Hearing her wish for more people to see her mom’s ceramics, Evan smiled and said warmly, “That’s exactly why I’m doing this ceramic show–to bring these works to more people.”
“Instead of being kept away in private collections by so–called collectors, I want these pieces to reach a wider crowd and be remembered. That’s the true value of art,” Evan said.”
Hearing this, Gwyneth nodded in agreement. They got along well. Every morning, Gwyneth went to work like usual, and after work, she headed straight to Evan’s studio to start making the copies.
To help her work late at night, Evan even gave her the keys to the studio. Gwyneth joked with a smile, “Aren’t you worried I’ll just take all your other ceramics and sell them?”
“You’d never treat someone else’s hard work like that,” Evan said firmly. He looked at his watch and added, “Don’t push yourself too hard–get some rest. I’m leaving now.”
Gwyneth nodded gently, her hands skillfully shaping the clay. She felt a deep peace–since the last concert, she had found happiness again. Working on what she loved, even busy days made her happy.
Outside, Evan called Harrison, keeping his voice low and steady. “She’s mostly staying at the studio to work. I set up a room for her to rest, and the security system is working well. No worries.”
