Chapter 138
“Okay,” Harrison said, feeling relieved. The elevator problem was fixed. But Bella and Zachary were still around. It was safer for Gwyneth to stay there and do what she loves, rather than go home and face constant trouble.
Just a door away, Gwyneth took a break from her work. She opened the lounge door and was surprised to see a room as nice as a five–star hotel. ‘Do all studios have such fancy rooms?‘ she wondered.
For several days in a row, Gwyneth disappeared right after work, only to show up the next morning looking fresh and full of energy. She handled all her tasks perfectly, but still didn’t make any progress with Zachary’s company.
Unable to hold back his anger anymore, Quentin yelled at Melanie, “What has Gwyneth been doing lately? She leaves work early, and I haven’t seen her have dinner with Zachary. Why aren’t you pushing her?”
“How would I know about Gwyneth’s work?” Melanie said with a pout. Ever since she crossed Kate, her dad’s attitude toward her got worse.
Diana told her to keep acting like daddy’s little girl, so she was working a few hours each day helping Quentin. But when he got mad at Gwyneth, he’d take it out on her too.
“Go get Gwyneth in here–now!” Quentin shouted, his anger boiling over.
When Gwyneth came in, Quentin slammed his hand on the desk. “I told you to get close to Zachary, but you aren’t taking it seriously at all! Do you even want to keep your position?”
Gwyneth stayed calm despite Quentin’s outbursts, her eyes steady. “Because of our past work with the Lopez Group, the Flynn Group and the Jenkins Group are now direct rivals.”
She added, “In this case, even if we could get Zachary on our side in a few days, his company probably wouldn’t agree to work with us right away.”
Gwyneth said calmly, “In business, rushing things often backfires. Don’t you think so, Dad?” With just a few words, Gwyneth cooled Quentin’s anger -he even forgot they used to be competitors.
Quentin was already planning other ways for Gwyneth to use her connections and win Zachary over first. Melanie suddenly said, “Gwyneth, you’ve been wearing the same clothes for days, and I haven’t seen you working late at the office.”
She added, “If you don’t have time to try to get the Flynn Group’s support, then where are you spending your nights after work? Not at home, I guess?”
Hearing this, Quentin immediately frowned. “You’re Harrison’s wife now. If people find out that as soon as he’s away, you’re out all night, they’ll call you an unfaithful wife.”
He added, “If it gets out, people will say I raised a daughter without manners.”
Gwyneth scoffed, “I just keep wearing the same outfits to make things easier. Melanie, if you can imagine such nasty things, your mind must be just as dirty.”
Gwyneth said, “No wonder Melanie dared to provoke Adrian’s fiancee. Dad, you’d better watch her before she starts pointing out my faults.”
Melanie’s face darkened like a storm, and Quentin was left speechless. Just then, the secretary opened the door and announced, “Mr. Jenkins, Mr. Flynn is here to see you.”
Gwyneth frowned but quickly put on a friendly smile. “Look, Zachary came to us himself! Gwennie, let’s go meet him.
“And don’t forget my order–try to win over the Flynn Group,” Quentin warned her sternly.
Gwyneth shot her father a cold look. “To him, I’m just a pawn to get powerful families on our side,’ she thought.
