Chapter 139
As soon as Gwyneth walked into the meeting room, Zachary’s eyes immediately focused on her. Seeing she was the same, his fists slowly relaxed and he felt relieved.
Gwyneth noticed Zachary’s look of relief and felt a bit confused. “Mr. Flynn, is there something important you wanted to talk to us about?”
Zachary looked at Gwyneth and said, “The Flynn Group is planning to grow in Joracity. I thought it would be good to meet some of the old friends.” It had been two days since he saw her at home.
Even the white Rolls–Royce Cullinan had been missing from the garage for two days. Worried something might have happened to Gwyneth, Zachary made up an excuse to visit the Jenkins Group, hoping to accidentally run into her.
It looked like Gwyneth’s life was going on as usual. Feeling uneasy under his intense stare, she shifted a little and said with a bit of sarcasm, “If you want to connect with Joracity’s rich families, aren’t all those social events enough?”
“Actually, I’m more interested in learning about the Jenkins Group,” Zachary said.
Gwyneth didn’t really care about his reasons. She told Flora to bring the company brochures and said, “Since you’re interested, Mr. Flynn, let me give you a proper introduction to the Jenkins Group today.”
The two sat across from each other at the table, very businesslike. Watching from the side, Quentin got more annoyed and thought, ‘Didn’t I tell Gwyneth to win Zachary over? Why isn’t she making a move?‘
Cutting into their talk, Quentin sat down beside Zachary with a friendly smile. “Mr. Flynn, if you’re looking to invest in Joracity, the Jenkins Group would be happy to help you.”
Zachary didn’t look at Quentin at all. “I’m talking with Ms. Jenkins,” he said.
Quentin’s face stiffened. It seemed only Gwyneth could get through to Zachary. Forcing a smile, Quentin said, “You probably have more in
common.”
Quentin said with a smile, “Since you two are getting along so well, Gwennie, why don’t you entertain Mr. Flynn properly?”
As Quentin stood up, he made sure to emphasize the last few words, giving Gwyneth a meaningful look-“Win him over, and get the Flynn Group’s projects.”
Gwyneth ignored Quentin completely. Only after he left did she lean back in her chair and push the documents toward Zachary. “Everything’s here. Help yourself,” she said, sounding indifferent.
“Letting the client read the materials themselves is very unprofessional, Zachary said with a frown.
Instead of getting mad, Gwyneth let out a mocking laugh. “As a client, you’ve been staring at me since I walked in. Is that your idea of being professional?”
Zachary noticed the security camera in the corner. Worried their private talk might be overheard, he hesitated, not sure where to start with Gwyneth.
He could bring up how their thirteen–year relationship had gone, or how fast she’d fallen for someone else, or maybe how suddenly she left. His mind was a mess, but the room was so quiet.
Just then, Zachary’s phone rang–the special ringtone he set just for Bella. Gwyneth’s eyes flickered briefly. Zachary quickly answered, “Bella.”
