Chapter 156
“Okay.” Sharon nodded, took a pass from the front desk, and followed Gwyneth straight upstairs.
Sharon was a newcomer but hit the ground running on her first job. Before the HR and Finance Departments realized what was happening, she restricted their access, requiring them to wait for the handover.
Half an hour later, Flora arrived with outsourced HR and finance staff to conduct a thorough audit.
During this time, Miranda tried several times to talk to Gwyneth. However, Gwyneth consistently avoided her.
They confiscated the desks and belongings of several top executives. Working alongside Flora and Sharon, Gwyneth personally collected every document before handing them over to a trusted audit team.
For two whole days, the Mercer Group underwent a complete purge from top to bottom.
When Miranda saw Gwyneth again, a group of employees was packed tightly outside, their angry shouts echoing down the hallway.
“Fire us if you want,” someone bellowed. “But you’d better pay up!”
“We’re loyal employees,” another one shouted, shoving to the front. “You can’t just kick us to the curb without compensation,”
Another voice rose above the crowd. “We’ll take this to the labor board.”
Gwyneth sat alone at her desk facing the noisy crowd, her eyes calm,
Without raising her voice, Gwyneth turned to Sharon. “Document every termination claim,” she instructed. “Process each one according to company policy.”
The crowd fell silent momentarily, stunned by her immediate compliance. Then the noise surged again–some grumbling about the terms and others hastily accepting their packages.
After hours of heated negotiations, most employees eventually accepted the fair severance offers. The Mercer Group’s restructuring was complete.
Miranda angrily shoved through the crowd and stormed up to Gwyneth. She slammed the table hard. “Kicking everyone out? You’re ruining the Mercer Group. Don’t forget that I helped build it too.”
Miranda’s inner circle got fired too. Once in charge, now she was all alone. She wouldn’t accept it.
Gwyneth faced her angry glare. “You’re on the layoff list too. The Mercer Group’s future isn’t your concern. As for compensation, I’ll have it calculated for you.”
Miranda froze when she realized Quentin had given Mercer Group to Gwyneth–that meant she’d have to leave. But being fired right away was a harsh surprise.
Seeing Gwyneth was a tough nut to crack, Miranda snapped, “I’ll go, but pay me big bucks. Don’t forget I’ve run the Mercer Group for years.”
Gwyneth’s lips curved. “Name your price.”
“Ten million to start,” Miranda shot back. “And we negotiate up from there.”
Sharon couldn’t help it. She snorted, “Big demands for someone who barely contributed.”
After speaking, Sharon locked eyes with Gwyneth and immediately produced a stack of documents, handing them over to her.
Before Miranda could react, Gwyneth had tossed the documents beside her and started listing Miranda’s doings.
“Two years ago,” Gwyneth recited, “the Mercer Group bid on a land project with millions in expected profits. But your bringing in pals made the bid sloppy. We not only lost the deal but also got blacklisted for a year, losing an estimated 15 million.
A year ago, you stole company money just to buy a special sports car. That caused a cash problem for the Mercer Group, and the Jenkins Group had to pay 2.5 million for your projects and profits. And-”
“Enough!” Ashamed after so many mistakes, Miranda didn’t dare to ask for money now. She glared angrily at Gwyneth. “You disrespectful brat! If your father finds out how you treated me, he’ll punish you.”
