Chapter 53
“Right now?” Gwyneth looked up, surprised. Then she glanced down at her bare fingers, the realization hitting her.
In her rush for this business trip, she’d forgotten to wear her usual fake wedding ring–the one that kept unwanted attention away and completed her outfits. Now she understood why that man hadn’t recognized her connection to Harrison
“Now” Harrison settled the bill and stood abruptly, moving with unexpected urgency.
Gwyneth followed him to the most prominent jewelry store nearby. The moment they entered, her breath caught.
The
entire space glittered with displays of exquisite jewels, each case more dazzling than the last.
“show us your finest diamond ring”
She was considering a simple band when Harrison interrupted. “Sh
“It’s not even a real wedding. Do we need something so extravagant?” she thought.
Before Gwyneth could object, the clerk produced their most exclusive piece–a rare ruby diamond with a price tag running into the millions.
Gwyneth stared at the astronomical figure, and then studied the ring with growing interest.
Harrison wasn’t satisfied. “Do you have anything more exceptional?”
“More exceptional?” The clerk paused briefly before replying. “There’s a natural blue diamond corning to auction next month, truly a once–in–a- lifetime stone. We could set it however you like.”
The word “blue” reminded Harrison of Gwyneth’s designs–all those tranquil azure tones she loved to work with.
Harrison tilted his head, noticing her absorption. “What do you think of this one?”
“It’s nice” she replied.
Before she could complete her thought, Harrison slipped the ring onto her finger.
Harrison’s tone remained matter–of–fact. This is just temporary. Next month, I’ll bid on that blue diamond and have a proper set made for you.
Gwyneth’s mind raced. A temporary ring worth millions! The Lopez family’s wealth truly knows no bounds. Yet she couldn’t deny she loved the design. “Thank you, Mr. Lopez.”
“Glad that you like it Harrison passed his card to the clerk. The ruby diamond glowed against her smooth skin. He took her hand, testing the fir with a bruch of his thumb before releasing it
Gwyneth felt the warmth of his touch linger on her fingers, her pulse quickening. It’s just jewelry, she told herself. Why am I so flustered?
Clyde had arranged their stay at the Lopez Group’s hotel. After getting settled, they would visit the company’s local branch tomorrow to finalize details for the mall opening.
Perhaps it was the day’s excitement, but Gwyneth slept more soundly than she had in months.
The next day, their driver took them to the Lopez Group’s branch office. The interior design mirrored the main headquarters‘ style.
Harrison had barely stepped inside when a director and several managers swarmed him, pressing for an immediate meeting.
Knowing she didn’t belong in business discussions, Gwyneth discreetly excused herself. “I’ll wait in the lounge.”
“Alright,” Harrison acknowledged, already refocusing on the managers.
Their attitude toward Gwyneth shifted noticeably. They’d assumed she was just an assistant, but Harrison’s tone suggested she might be something
Though the branch staff knew little about Harrison’s personal life, his demeanor made one thing clear–Gwyneth wasn’t just another employee, That was why an assistam promptly escorted her to the main lounge, the area typically reserved for VIP guests.
“No peed to stay with me,” Gwyneth said to the assistant, sinking into a plush chair. I’ll just browse my phone”
