Chapter 1 

On the day of my husband’s funeral, my parents–in–law said they pitied. me for being deaf and blind, and with a five–year–old child, they 

wanted my brother–in–law to carry on the family line for both 

households. 

But suddenly, I heard them call my husband’s name. 

“Eugene, why did you tell Laura that you were the one who died?” 

His tone was a little helpless. 

“If it weren’t for the marriage alliance with the Taylor family back then. I should have been the one to marry Stella. Now that my brother is gone, of course I have to take care of Stella for the rest of my life. 

“I tricked Laura into registering for divorce before. Tomorrow, I’ll take her to get the divorce certificate, and then I’ll get the marriage 

certificate with Stella. 

“Laura is deaf and blind anyway, and the Taylor family is overseas, so they won’t find out the truth.” 

The next second, accompanied by crisp clapping, my son, John Jackman, responded excitedly, “Yay! Mom is a useless loser. I’ve long wanted a new mom. 

My in–laws sighed. “It’s up to you. Since you caused the car accident, you have to clean up the mess properly.” 

Every word pierced me like a knife.

The so–called perfect husband in everyone’s eyes, Eugene Jackman- who stayed with me despite my deafness and blindness after the accident–turned out to be the one who caused my misfortune. 

He let me live nearly a year in endless darkness and silence. 

Even the son I raised myself disliked me and didn’t want me as his 

mom. 

I froze, unable to move or breathe. 

But Eugene kept talking, “Don’t worry. The drunk driver has a terminal. illness and at most a month left to live. 

“I’ve already taken full control of the Taylor family’s business and connections in the country. The marriage alliance is meaningless now. I didn’t expect that witch just won’t die! 

“But… having her under my control like this is great too. The Taylor family will willingly let me use them because of her.” 

I was chilled to the bone. 

Back then, he pursued me for more than two years, swearing he’d marry no one but me in this life. 

Later, I married into the Jackman family against my family’s wishes. He knelt before my parents, tearfully promising he’d never let me down. 

The so–called marriage alliance was just sugar–coated talk. Eugene had been a poor student my dad sponsored back then. 

After graduation, he started a business. It was all thanks to my parents‘ connections and funding that he turned a small company into a listed enterprise.

In our eight years of marriage, I devoted myself entirely to him and our 

son. 

I never imagined all his affection was fake, and all he wanted was profit. 

Lost in thought, I was brought back to the room by the tactile sign language interpreter. 

Perhaps she also found me pitiful, muttering, “You can’t hear or see, so it’s better to think it’s your husband who died.” 

But I could hear again. 

After fainting from the shock when she told me Eugene had died, I suddenly regained my hearing. I could also see a bit of light–regaining full vision was only a matter of time. 

Eugene really deserved to die. 

I tried hard to open my eyes to see the world clearly, but I still couldn’t.

“Eugene, before getting the certificate, why not take Laura for a checkup? The doctor said it was a brain nerve injury that made her like

Eugene complained with slight displeasure, “Still calling me by my name? Starting today, she’s not your sister–in–law anymore. Change how you call me.” 

Stella immediately sweetened her tone and called him darling, followed by the sound of a kiss.. 

Then he responded dotingly and reassuringly, “Good girl, that’s more like it. 

“The Taylor family is powerful, but the story they hear about Laura is 

up to me. 

“Brain nerves are complicated. We’ve searched for experts to treat Laura for so long without results. Now that treatment has stopped, it’s even more impossible for her to recover. You don’t need to worry.” 

Before marrying into the Jackman family, I knew Stella was their adopted daughter, and the three siblings were very close. 

Eugene always told me he treated Stella as a real sister. When his brother married Stella, I was surprised, but he always acted with propriety. 

Looking back now, I was just being naïve. 

I dug my nails deep into my palms. 

Then I heard Stella instruct the interpreter, “Helen, tell her we’re going for a check–up today, and then proceed with the follow–up for Eugene’s death. Help her change clothes–I’ll do her makeup.” 

For a while, they manipulated me like a puppet on strings.

As I was helped out of the room, Helen hesitantly asked, “Mr. Jackman, is it… really okay to go out like this?” 

At the same time, I heard John’s childish laughter. 

“Hahaha! Mom, how did she become such an ugly freak? She looks. like Ultraman. So ugly.” 

I almost responded to that “Mom.” 

But then I realized he was calling Stella. 

“I wanted to dress her up like Ultraman to make you laugh, but I guess it didn’t work,” Stella said with some frustration. “Eugene, I’ll remove her makeup right away. I won’t let her go out looking like this and embarrass herself.” 

Eugene replied indifferently, “She doesn’t know anything, so what does it matter? Today you’re the star–your happiness is all that matters. 

“Helen, keep your mouth shut. Don’t even think about passing any messages to Laura or her family. Otherwise, there’ll be no one to pay your daughter’s medical bills.” 

Hearing my son’s cheers, my heart twisted in pain. 

My own bloodline also transformed into a blade that pierced me. 

On the way to the City Hall, I secretly used sign language to tell Helen, “I’ll take full responsibility for your daughter’s illness. You can ask for any reward–just help me contact my family.”
