Chapter 10
That afternoon, I led my people back to the Jackman’s villa.
I took away all my belongings.
Eugene’s parents were both present.
Kasen likely found out that the company had already switched owners. He pointed at me and began yelling, “You heartless woman…
Before he could complete his sentence, he abruptly collapsed and began convulsing.
Bailey was so frightened that she panicked.
It took her a few moments to remember to dial the emergency number.
I watched coldly as she delayed the critical three minutes needed to treat the acute cerebral infarction.
Subsequently, Kasen became entirely paralyzed and lost the ability to speak.
Bailey struggled to come to terms with the news, which aggravated her heart issues and led to the need for surgery.
Who would still be willing to get close to them?
They invested a significant sum, but there were still no results.
I decided not to travel overseas with my parents. Instead, I took charge of Eugene’s group, gave it a new name, and managed its operations myself.
Chapter 10
The Kane family reached out to express their gratitude for my role in convincing Steve to take over the family business.
On the day of the hearing, I took my place in the plaintiff’s seat.
The evidence against the hit–and–run driver was undeniable, and he pointed to Eugene as the person who had given him the order.
Eugene was sentenced to three years in prison.
I didn’t voice any opposition. Instead, I converted all his assets into cash, including the real estate registered in his name.
Based on my calculation, three years would be enough time to destroy
a person.
A month after Eugene was imprisoned, I went to visit him.
Fresh injuries layered over the old ones on his cheekbones. The corner of his mouth was badly damaged, and his eyes were swollen.
He sat behind the iron bars, his face ghostly pale.
It seemed that the people I had contacted had indeed made things difficult for him.
“Eugene, I’ve got some updates for you.
“Stella has been sentenced to death as you wanted, and she’s no longer alive.
“Your father is bedridden and paralyzed, while your mother recently underwent heart stent surgery. With their funds depleted, the hospital has discharged them. I’ve also sold all your properties, leaving them without a place to stay. Do you think they’ll manage until you’re out?”

He glanced up at me and spoke quickly.
I couldn’t be bothered to listen and walked away.
It was unfortunate that his parents didn’t last long.
Steve was the one who broke the news to me. “Eugene’s parents were staying in an incomplete building. His mother suffered another heart. issue, and there was no one nearby to call 911.
“His father was completely immobile. He witnessed his wife take her final breath, and ultimately, he died from starvation and dehydration.”
I wasn’t affected at all when I heard the news.
I simply had someone relay it to Eugene, who was in prison.
A few days later, I was informed again. “When Eugene found out hist parents had passed away, he broke down in tears. He fought back when the prison bully attacked him, but ended up with a broken leg.”

Time has a way of soothing all aches.
Under my guidance, the group has made significant progress.
If people hadn’t frequently informed me about Eugene’s unfortunate circumstances, I would have slowly forgotten him.
Upon his release from prison, he found himself penniless and with a limp in one leg.
Based on the photos, his eyes appeared lifeless.
To gain my approval, his former associates cut off all his income

sources.
Left with no choice, he resorted to taking on odd jobs in secret to
survive.
He tried visiting me several times, but he was always mistaken as homeless and was chased away.
Ultimately, unable to bear the situation any longer, he decided to take his own life.
The day I learned about his passing, I visited our son.
I couldn’t stop thinking about whether our son had finally found the family of three he yearned for in the afterlife…
Following yet another annual shareholders‘ meeting, Steve whispered. to me, “Holding onto resentment for too long is like inflicting torture on yourself.”
I shook my head.
“After someone passes, all the feelings disappear. I don’t hate him anymore.”
Steve’s eyes brightened immediately.
“Then let’s get married soon! I’ve been dreaming of this day for years. Surely you knew that!
“My family keeps labeling me a life–long bachelor and scolding me for being useless. I’ve been pursuing you for so long without success. Have some compassion for me…”
He rambled on quickly.
