Chapter 2
My feelings for Eugene vanished the moment I heard those words, but giving up my son felt like tearing flesh from the bone.
He had grown up by my side until he was four–always kind and sensible. I couldn’t understand how, in just over a year of me being unable to care for him, he had changed into someone else entirely.
Maybe this is the part of him I could never change–his bloodline…
“Oh my gosh! That woman is so bold, going out like that.”
“Is this some kind of new cosplay? She’s even wearing haute couture- maybe the makeup is for dramatic contrast?”
This book had been added on your bookshelf,
“Maybe there’s something wrong with her. What sane person would make themselves look like that?”
Amid all the ridicule and mocking, I got the divorce certificate.
Stella clung to Eugene, talking about buying a diamond ring and checking out wedding dresses.
Neither of them showed the slightest grief over the loss of a husband or a brother–treating the wedding like a celebration to drive away bad luck.
They ignored my plea to return home and dragged me through every major shopping mall with Helen supporting me.
No one helped me.

After I got married, my parents had moved all their business overseas.
Worried I might be mistreated in the Jackman family, they handed over all their domestic businesses and connections to Eugene. Now, that had become his leverage to control me.
I was treated like a lunatic, a madwoman, while Stella was the glowing bride–to–be, basking in blessing after blessing.
Yet even with all that, she still wasn’t satisfied–pouting and making demands to Eugene.
“Hmph! The wedding’s the day after tomorrow, and you won’t even let it be grand. When you married Laura, the whole city watched. You said you wanted to make her the happiest woman in the world…
“I don’t care. You have to make it up to me–make me even happier than Laura was. Okay? Pretty please?”
Eugene patiently coaxed her again and again.
We finally returned to the Jackman’s villa.
After dinner, while Helen was removing my makeup, she whispered cautiously, “Can you hear now?”
I nodded, the corner of my mouth curling into a bitter, mocking smile. “Yeah. Just in time to hear the truth. What a coincidence!”
She hesitated for a moment before picking up my words. “I’ll help you! But can we keep it from them for now? I’m worried things will get more complicated if they find out.”
“I’m divorced now, and the nurse caring for my daughter was hired by Mr. Jackman. She has a congenital heart condition–she can’t handle any shock…”

Chapter 2
It aligned perfectly with my thoughts.
My vision hadn’t returned, and there was only so much I could do. It would take time for my parents to fly over. Eugene was capable of staging a car accident–if he got desperate, who knows what else he’d do. I still had to endure.
“Alright.”
I nodded and had Helen dial my parents‘ number.
It had been over a year since I’d heard their voices–I was so emotional. I nearly cried.
But before the call could connect, the sound of approaching footsteps. came again.
Helen hastily ended the call and was immediately called away by Stella.
A dozen minutes later, I heard John running in, calling me “Mom“. He tugged on my hand with his soft little fingers, leading me outside.
I instinctively followed, walking so quickly that I lost track of my steps.
“John, slow down. Where are you taking me…
Before I could finish, I tripped over a pile of things at the doorway. My head slammed hard against the floor.
Right before I lost consciousness, I vaguely saw John’s small figure clapping his hands and jumping up and down.
“This gam
game is so fun!”
“Mom, this lobster monster really fell down just like you said it would!
