Chapter 5
The night breeze was slightly cool.
After making my plans, the only thing that still made me hesitate was the question of John’s future…
Eugene and Stella’s wedding arrived as scheduled.
They said it wouldn’t be a big affair, but the important elements were all present; just no major figures showed up.
It was clear that Eugene was deeply in love with Stella, his beloved crush.
I held back a cold smile as I watched them walk hand in hand onto the stage and into the hall.
Everyone froze as if time had stopped.
Whispers followed.
“Isn’t Laura both deaf and blind? How does she look like she’s fine?”
“Oh no! Will the Taylor family blame us?”
“This situation is a mess. I’m leaving first, I need to go back and figure out how to apologize…”
My people had already secured the door.
I raised my voice, “The banquet hasn’t ended. We are here to witness. this. Don’t rush to leave.”

When Stella saw me, she shrank to the side like a quail.
But Eugene and his parents didn’t care about her. They exchanged a glance and hurried toward me.
“Laura, you’ve finally recovered. That’s great!”
“Please don’t misunderstand today’s wedding. You… you listen to
me…”
I raised an eyebrow and looked at him.
Given the current situation, I was curious to see what kind of explanation he could come up with.
But he paused for a few seconds, unable to find the right words.
It was Eugene’s mom Bailey Jackman who spoke first. “Laura, it was my idea for Eugene to marry both families. I have to say it’s all my fault. I raised Stella, and I didn’t want her to be left alone, which led to today’s outcome.
“From now on, you’ll still be Eugene’s wife, and Stella will have to move out. Eugene only needs to leave her with some security.
“Don’t blame Eugene. I forced him into this. He is only being filial, unable to resist. You have always been the one in his heart.
“If you’re angry, take it out on me. I’ll work for you to make up for it, okay?”
Eugene nodded repeatedly.
“That’s true, Laura. I hid it from you because I was afraid you couldn’t accept it all at once.”

Eugene’s ever–pious dad, with a stern face, said, “This is ridiculous. I told you this matter was handled poorly. Now that Laura knows, let’s listen to her!”
The three of them played their roles very convincingly.
I reached out to the bodyguard for the remote control.
I had them gag Stella and drag her over before slowly scanning the faces of the Jackman family trio.
“Please watch this video. If your decision doesn’t change after watching it, I will fully agree.”
Eugene’s face lit up.
But Stella kept struggling desperately, her eyes wide with rage, glaring
at me.
I waved the bodyguard away and kindly removed the cloth from her
mouth.
She immediately yelled at me, “Laura, are you playing me?”
As she kept shouting, the projection played the words she herself had
said.
In several angles, it repeated, “My ex–husband’s diving accident was my doing.”
Eugene’s younger brother, the most beloved son of the Jackman family, died at her hands.
Bailey couldn’t breathe, her eyes rolled back, and she fainted.
Eugene’s dad Kasen Jackman slapped her twice with all his might,

clutching his chest as dirty old tears streamed down his face, muttering, “Our family is doomed…”
Only Eugene’s face was dark and unsettled. From my perspective, he didn’t seem completely unaware.
At that moment, Stella suddenly burst out laughing.
“Laura, do you think I didn’t have a backup plan? Have you noticed who isn’t present at today’s gathering?
“I knew you would be the winner today, but how about I add your son’s life as a bargaining chip? I still want yesterday’s conditions: 400 million dollars and to have you escort me out of the country. What do you think?”
