Chapter 7
I dropped to my knees and pressed my hands over John’s wound.
But despite my efforts, the blood continued to ooze through my fingers.
He uttered “Mom” just once before shutting his eyes.
I eagerly answered him repeatedly.
Pictures continuously played in my mind, from the ten months of carrying him to watching his first unsteady steps, and the moment he first said “Mom” while learning to talk…
The ambulance took us away, but the emergency care was halted.
Even though I kept begging, the doctor looked at me with a sense of helplessness and said, “I’m truly sorry. We’ve done all that was possible.”
In the chilly mortuary.
Kasen wept.
“I told you not to stir up so much trouble, but you just wouldn’t listen. Now, who’s going to bring my grandson back to me?
“Stella has always been a bad person. She’s narrow–minded and excessively competitive… She truly deserves to face the consequences. She’s been the reason I’ve lost both my son and grandson…”
Bailey was crying so hard that she was breathless.
“You old fool… It’s all your fault for wanting a daughter so much.

“What a disaster! We never should have allowed that troublemaker into our family… I treated her so well, and this is the result…”
Steve ordered his men to throw them out.
He wanted to let them cry outside.
Eventually, Bailey collapsed from her sobbing and only calmed down once she was admitted to the hospital ward.
Throughout the accusations, no one considered their own faults.
I sat there, overwhelmed and numb. A whirlwind of emotions churned inside me, and tears clouded my vision, making everything appear indistinct.
I wasn’t sure how long it had been when Eugene rested his hand on my
shoulder.
“Laura, our son will return. We can call our next child John as well.”
I hit and kicked him, shouting for him to leave.
I couldn’t even say a complete sentence.
Steve seized him by the collar and swung a punch.
“I’ve had enough of you! Your child just passed away, and you’re already fantasizing about having another. You’re delusional!
“Who are you pretending to cry for? This is all your fault! You’re so self–centered, worse than garbage!”
Each punch was thrown with force, but Eugene didn’t retaliate.
Steve continued to hit Eugene until he was too tired to carry on. After

that, he threw Eugene out of the mortuary and instructed the bodyguards to watch over him.
My parents also rushed over in a hurry.
My mom embraced me, softly rubbing my back as her voice caught with emotion, “Accidents are unpredictable, my dear Laura. Don’t blame yourself. Everyone else is responsible, not you!”
My dad, eyes red from tears, gave my shoulder a pat.
“You’ve done an excellent job already.”
I wept like a child while nestled in my mother’s embrace.
Eugene hurried back and dropped to his knees in front of us, repeatedly hitting his own face.
“Dad, Mom, I take full responsibility for not looking after Laura and our child properly. You can punish me or reprimand me if you want.
“I acted foolishly. Even though my mom had threatened to harm herself, I shouldn’t have let her influence my decisions…”
My dad knocked him down with a single kick.
He instructed the bodyguards, “Get rid of him!”
I spent the entire night in the mortuary.
At sunrise, I personally wheeled John’s body to the crematorium, gathered his ashes, and laid them to rest in the cemetery.
Turning to my parents and Steve, I said, “I’ve reconsidered. From this day forward, I want Eugene and his family to endure a fate worse than death every single day.”
