Once again rejected, Halsey’s deep–set eyes conveyed intrigue as he looked at her. She appeared resistant toward him, yet wanted to profit from him but was reluctant to show him a friendly expression.
Thinking back carefully, he could not recall ever offending her. Watching her nibble delicately at her food, Halsey suddenly stood up and brought a few slices of cake from the buffet table, placing them in front of her.
“Miss Magnolia, don’t rush to turn down on me. You can think it over again,” he said, observing her calmly. Even though she wore a mask, her shifting emotions could not escape his sharp gaze.
Her eyes swept over the cakes, but just as she saw one topped with strawberries, her eye expression immediately showed disgust.

Halsey caught on to this detail instantly. His charming eyes narrowed slightly, and a flicker of darkness flashed across them. Margot, unwilling to exchange another word with him, stood up and left decisively.
As Miss Magnolia, she had the privilege to act this way. This time, Halsey did not follow her. Instead, he sat on the sofa, Jcrossing his long legs as he stared intently at her retreating figure, his gaze cold and sharp.
Is it a coincidence? She seems to hate strawberries. Margot was allergic to strawberries. He had once seen her suffer from an allergic reaction. Her delicate skin had broken out into many small red bumps, and she scratched herself in agony.
Their figures were almost similar, and so was the same allergen. There were too many coincidences. However, their voices were different. Halsey took out his phone and made a call. “Find out where Margot is,” he said.
“Yes, sir,” said the receiver.
When Maggie located Margot, she was standing by the window, gazing out at the night scenery. “Five companies want your fragrances, and three want to connect with you. I neither accepted nor declined. Do you have time to meet them?” Maggie asked as she walked over.
“Sure” Margot nodded. “Now that I no longer revolve around Halsey, I have plenty of time.”
Maggie continued, “You make a few samples first and I’ll handle the transactions. By the way, Cynthia asked if you could come by. Her bar is opening
Cynthia Maggie, and Margot were close friends. Margot had married young, and her contact with them had dwindled over the years. Upon learning of Margot’s divorce, Cynthia was the most excited because she had never liked Halsey since the. beginning.

Halsey received a call from his subordinate saying that Margot was in her small apartment all the while. He glanced at the two women chatting by the window and instructed him, “Go to her place and tell her I have something for her.”

Margot had no idea that she was already under suspicion. Her phone rang as she planned to head to Cynthia’s bar after the birthday party. Seeing the caller ID, her eyes under the mask grew colder. It was her mother, Lynn, who called her.
“Hello, Margot answered, her tone calm.

Margot’s breathing faltered before she responded, “Mom, did you know I had a car accident?”
