Chapter 29 She Was Like a Clown
What did she see!
In the warmly lit room, Robin’s small body lay in Chloe’s arms. His little hands clutched hers as if in reliance, his fever- flushed face red, and his tiny brows tightly furrowed in discomfort.
Chloe gently stroked his back and occasionally touched his forehead to check if it was still hot. Halsey sat beside them, his brows furrowed as he watched Robin. His usually cold and sharp features revealed a hint of worry.
“Mommy…” In the quiet atmosphere, Robin’s hoarse and childlike voice murmured.
Chloe hugged him tightly immediately and said, “It’s okay, Robin. You’ll feel better soon.”
Margot stood by the doorframe, her fingernails nearly digging into the wood. It was so hurting as if countless knives were coming at her from all directions, stabbing deeply into her heart. The bitter emotion spread into her eyes, making them sting, but she blinked quickly to calm herself. I must not cry. Didn’t I already know it long ago?
Halsey loved Chloe deeply. She was his ideal lover, and Robin could not wait to call her “Mommy.”
He already did. Why did I come here? To humiliate myself?.
Margot shifted her gaze away from Robin’s small face and looked at Halsey. His strikingly charming eyes alternating between Robin and Chloe filled with a rare gentleness.
Margot felt like being slapped, every inch of her body aching. Taking a deep breath, she said in her calm and distant voice, “It looks like he’s fine now. I’ll make a move first
After witnessing this scene, she was more convinced than ever to stick to her current role, someone who had forgotten them thoroughly and no longer cared for them.
She could not help but wonder why she had not really forgotten about them. If she had, she would not feel this pain, this sadness.
The people in the room looked over upon hearing her voice. Chloe’s face filled with panic, and she immediately tried to explain. “Mrs. Greene, it’s not what you think. Please let me explain.”
Margot blinked, her clear black eyes full of confusion, and she asked, “What do you want to explain?”
“I… Chloe opened her mouth and awkwardly said, “I came to deliver something to Mrs. Jocelyn Greene. She said Robin had at fever, and I came up to check on him. I thought holding him would make him feel better, so… Mrs. Greene, please don’t be upset. I don’t mean to replace you
Smiling faintly, Margot said, “No, I didn’t misunderstand. You’ve taken good care of him. I’m leaving now.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she turned and walked away, never sparing Halsey a glance.
Chloe’s eyes flickered, a hint of satisfaction flashing through them. However, Halsey suddenly stood up and strode out of the
Seeing this, Chloe was momentarily stunned and said, “Halsey, aren’t you looking after Robin?”
Halsey replied, “You’re here. That’s enough. His heart was in turmoil, especially after seeing Margot’s indifferent expression
She just walked away like this? She didn’t even step in to check on Robin He’s her son, she once loved him more than anything else! The more he thought about it, the darker Halsey’s expression grew.
Downstairs, Margot smiled politely at the butler and quickly exited the villa. She had to leave fast, or she could not hold herself together.
Suddenly, a rush of wind came from behind her, and her wrist was gripped tightly, halting her steps. “Margot,” Halsey’s strong hand held her delicate wrist as he looked at her fair, soft face, his charming eyes darkening slightly. “You’re not going to check
on Robin?”
