The day before the wedding, Jasper appeared outside my room.
Seeing him again, he looked exhausted, devoid of his former professional aura, appearing ordinary.
The moment he saw me, a glimmer of light appeared in his dull eyes.
Seeing the red paper cutouts in my hand, he asked, looking disheartened.
“Adeline, can we go back to how things were?”
I flicked the red paper scraps beside him, watching them fall precisely into the trash before responding.
“What do you think?”
The festive red still stung his eyes.
Tears welled up in his dark eyes.
“Can’t you give me another chance?”
He asked without giving me a chance to answer and explained on his own.
“I never thought of betraying you. That night, I was set up. I’ve always just seen her as a junior. You’re my only true love. I planned it all. Once she had the baby, I would’ve proposed to you, given you a grand wedding. No one can ruin us. I didn’t expect you to care so much about her existence.”
“Give me another chance, I can send her abroad immediately.”
As he spoke, he attempted to reach for me.
I stepped back, skillfully avoiding him.
“The first time was being drugged; what about the second time? You said she’s just a junior, then who were those nights abroad for? And the exquisite cooking skills, who were those for?”
“Is she really just a junior, or a girlfriend under the guise of a junior?”
Hearing this, his expression changed drastically, and his body seemed to shake, as my mocking smile and sharp truths shattered his self–deception.
Not giving him a chance to explain, I continued.
“Can we be honest now? You’re getting married, and I have a new life. After eight years of marriage, isn’t it better to let each

“Can we be honest now? You’re getting married, and I have a new life. After eight years of marriage, isn’t it better to let each other go?”
But he seemed to miss the point, grabbing my shoulders, a bit agitated.
“If you’re willing, I can cancel the wedding, send her away immediately, and I don’t even want the child.”
“Just give me another chance.”
I broke free from his grip and slapped him hard.
“Wake up!”
Jasper, snapping out of it, had eyes filled with guilt.
“Sorry, I hurt you.”
I had said all I needed to say and didn’t want to entangle any further. I turned to leave.
But he grabbed my wrist.
“Adeline, is there really no chance for us?”
I completely lost my patience. Just as I was about to call security to throw him out, the grip on my hand suddenly loosened.
