Chapter 13 Late Apology
Corbin didn’t suspect anything. He nodded with a smile and left before closing the door.
Once he was gone, Ladonna crawled out from under the blankets. Her hair was a mess, and she was naked.
But Cedric was fully dressed.
“Are you gonna let me go see Izabella like this?” Ladonna asked, frowning in frustration.
He shook his head. “You’re not getting it. I am not going to let you see
her.”
He was about to leave.
“What? Why not? She is my daughter!” Ladonna was so anxious and
worried.
Facing her challenge, he stepped closer and grabbed her wrist.
He said in a cold voice, “You think you can just walk away after lying to me like that?”
Ladonna froze, unable to reply.
“You lied to me, Ladonna. Did you ever think about the cost?”
He let go of her wrist and decided to leave.
“She is my daughter! You have no right to keep her from me!” Ladonna shouted, upset.

“I brought you here. You’re in my place. That means you’ll follow my rules. Even if I don’t want to hurt you, are you willing to risk Izabella paying the price?”
That was a real threat. Ladonna became quiet.
She’d gone too far lately. Cedric was at the top of the world. Just because he cared about her didn’t mean he’d let her push him around.
He had his dignity and pride. Her walking away without a word that night had slapped him in the face.
Yet, he still saved her and Izabella at the factory. No matter what, Ladonna shouldn’t have snapped at him.
Ladonna calmed down, and her voice softened. She lowered her head and sighed,
“Cedric, I know I was wrong that night. I shouldn’t have left without
saying anything. But I had no choice. I didn’t want to drag you down with me. You saved me and Izabella. I really owe you.
“But Izabella’s not well. I’m worried. Can I please see her? I’m begging
you…‘
He could sense her compromise. But that wasn’t what he wanted.
Cedric was a man who never failed. He couldn’t understand why she chose him but left decisively when things got hard.
That was why he wanted to punish her.
But now, watching her like this, he didn’t feel satisfied but upset.
Seeing him silent, Ladonna reached for his hand.
The touch from her warm palm eased his anger.

“I’ll have someone bring you clothes. When you’re dressed, come find me downstairs.”
He took away his hand and left the room.
As the door closed, he disappeared from her sight.
Ladonna whispered, full of guilt, “I’m sorry.”
But he didn’t hear it at all.
Soon, a maid brought over a set of clothes, and Ladonna put them on. She- found in surprise that they fit perfectly, as if they were custom–made.
She didn’t know that Cedric had them tailored just for her.
After getting dressed, she walked downstairs. From the top of the stairs, she saw Cedric waiting on the sofa. Corbin sat beside him.
