Chapter 24 The Escape
One night, Ladonna lay in bed and scrolled her phone in boredom. Suddenly, she realized it was late.
Cedric hadn’t come back at this hour. Did it mean he wouldn’t come back tonight?
Thinking of this, Ladonna had a bold plan coming across her mind.
She pressed her lips and got up, going to Corbin’s room.
At this moment, Corbin was playing with toys. When he saw Ladonna come, he tossed away the toys without hesitation and went up to Ladonna.
“Mommy, why are you here?”
“Corbin, my sweet boy.” Ladonna carried him to the window and asked with feigned casualness, “Corbin, why hasn’t your daddy come back at this hour? Is something up?”
Corbin shook his head without thinking and explained to her, “Mommy, didn’t you know? Daddy has work stuff today and might be back super late. Since it’s so late, he might not come back tonight.”
The smile on Ladonna’s lips deepened. She pretended nothing had happened and nodded.
“In this case, go to bed early, Corbin. I gotta check on Izabella.”
After she spoke, Ladonna put Corbin in bed and went to see Izabella.
It was late. Izabella had taken medicine and fallen asleep.

Ladonna gently touched Izabella’s face and muttered, “Izabella, be good. Wait for me.”
Following that, she kissed Izabella’s forehead.
Ladonna returned to her room and put on a set of casual clothes, opening the window.
Her room was on the second floor, but it was not too bad. Besides, there was soft grass below.
It wouldn’t hurt to jump off. If she went out from the ground floor, she would soon be discovered.
Cedric was not at home tonight, and this was the best chance for Ladonna.
She couldn’t miss it.
Thinking of this, Ladonna gritted her teeth and climbed onto the window sill, jumping down to the lawn.
She had prepared herself for this, but when she landed, she sprained her ankle by accident.
Clutching her throbbing ankle, Ladonna winced, but there was not a moment to lose.
Pressing her lips to stifle her moan, she limped to the back gate.
During her days here, Ladonna had learned the manor’s layout by heart under the excuse of taking Corbin and Izabella for walks.
The manor had an abandoned back gate, usually unwatched.
If she could go out through the gate, her escape plan would succeed.
Ladonna was motivated by the prospect and ignored the pain in her ankle,

trudging step by step toward the back gate.
When she got there, she paused.
The unwatched back gate was actually locked.
Ladonna stood frozen in shock, a sudden chill crawling from her scalp to her toes as if drenched by invisible ice water.
Suddenly, she saw a dog hole by the wall.
Perhaps she could crawl out of it?
Without hesitation, she started to crouch down, but due to her sprained ankle, she lost her balance and fell to the ground.
Just as Ladonna was about to crash onto the rocks, she instinctively shut her eyes. To her surprise, she fell into an embrace.
“Ladonna, it’s not wise to escape.”
The mocking laughter made her whole body stiffen. She knew exactly whose arms held her without looking..
The next moment, Cedric carried her in his arms.
“Cedric, it’s not what you think. I just wanted to walk off dinner…”
It was a lame excuse, but it was better than saying nothing.
