Chapter 7 Let’s Die Together
Corbin thought, “Most importantly, we’ve never had a mom since we were born. Could it be that I am her biological son?”
Corbin was secretly thrilled inside. He made up his mind to find a way to confirm this.
Seeing Corbin was silent, Ladonna realized she was silly. Corbin was at a carefree age. He wouldn’t be concerned about something like this.
Since Izabella was sick, Corbin didn’t want to stay and cause Ladonna more trouble. So he took the initiative to say goodbye to her.
When Ladonna opened the door, she spotted a black Rolls–Royce parked nearby. It looked like a beast, all powerful and intimidating. A large hand with well–defined knuckles stuck out from the car window, holding a cigarette. Through the smoke, she saw a pair of dark, cold, and piercing eyes, dangerous and aggressive.
It was Cedric.
Ladonna quickly looked away and clutched her racing heart. “Corbin, your dad is here. I won’t see you off.”
“Yeah, thanks for everything, Mommy,” Corbin said reluctantly, holding Ladonna’s hand.
He added, “Actually, I came this time to invite you and Izabella to my birthday party. You two are my only friends.
“I know you’re sad because Izabella is sick. I understand if you say no.”
Facing his eager and cautious gaze, Ladonna felt her throat tightened. She

really couldn’t bring herself to say no.
“Corbin, I’ll take Izabella to your birthday party,” Ladonna smiled.
“Hooray! Thanks, Mommy!” Corbin was so excited that he danced around and handed over the invitation card. He even gave Ladonna a kiss.
“Mommy, I’ll come pick you up on my birthday. See you then.” With that, Corbin skipped away and got into the car.
Ladonna watched him go before heading back to her apartment.
Inside the car, Corbin was all smiles.
Cedric glanced at him. “Why didn’t you ask her to send you over?”
“Huh? What?” Corbin was taken aback for a moment and then he got it. “Daddy, do you miss Mommy? If you want to see her, you can go find her yourself.”
Corbin thought, “No wonder Daddy has been driving me to find Mommy these past few days. It turns out he has a purpose.”
Cedric’s face froze, and he retorted in a deep voice, “Who said I miss her?”
Corbin blinked and asked innocently, “If you don’t, then why did you want Mommy to send me over?”
Cedric didn’t answer but just glanced at Corbin.
He bent over to fasten Corbin’s seatbelt, started the car, and then casually asked, “So, what did she say that made you so happy?”
Corbin grinned, “Mommy promised to come to my birthday party.”
Cedric sneered, thinking, “A few days ago, she clearly drew the line with

me, and now she is coming to Corbin’s birthday party. Isn’t she just playing hard to get?”
Cedric was about to give up, but now he saw a glimmer of hope.
“Daddy, six years ago, did you…” Before Coby could finish, Cedric’s phone rang. It was Randall.
He was probably missing Corbin again.
Cedric handed the phone to Corbin. After the call, Corbin’s smile grew even bigger.
He thought, “That’s great! Great–Grandpa is coming back to Valorbury. Then I can ask about my mom in person.”
“What did you just say about six years ago?” asked Cedric.
Corbin shook his head. “Nothing, Dad. You misheard. I was asking if you like Mommy.”
“Like?” The word suddenly popped into his mind, leaving Cedric a bit stunned.
He wondered, “Do I like Ladonna? I just want to see her. Is that what liking someone means?”
Three days later, it was Corbin’s birthday.
Ladonna put Izabella in a cute little dress and was ready to head out with the gift she had prepared ages ago.
When she opened the door, she unexpectedly saw an uninvited guest.
“Ladonna! Enough of your games!” Layton stormed in, smashing furniture and throwing the gift box in Ladonna’s hand out the window.

Ladonna shielded Izabella behind her, looking defensive. “What are you doing?”
Layton sneered, “I should be asking you that. You blocked me just to make me come to you on my own, right?”
When Layton saw Izabella trembling, he looked disgusted.
At the sight of this bastard, he thought of Ladonna’s infidelity and betrayal.
Layton stepped forward and grabbed Ladonna’s chin. “You dressed up so nicely. Are you going to meet some other man?”
“You bad guy! Let go!” Seeing Ladonna being bullied, Izabella rushed forward to hit Layton’s leg, but Layton kicked her to the ground.
Izabella crouched by the wall, hugging her stomach and trembling.
“Izabella!” Ladonna pushed Layton away and rushed to check on Izabella.
Layton ordered his men to take Izabella away.
Then, he tied Ladonna up and put her in another car.
“Layton, what are you going to do?” Ladonna questioned.
Ignoring her, Layton started the car.
The car smoothly joined the traffic and zipped past a black Rolls–Royce.
The car was going very fast. Ladonna’s heart was pounding with tension.
Layton sped up, nearly shouting in desperation, “Ladonna! Do you choose death or leaving me?”
Ladonna’s throat felt dry and tight. For a moment, she couldn’t understand

Layton’s intentions.

“You hate me, so why do you still show you don’t want me to go?” she asked.
Layton gripped the steering wheel tightly and roared, “You’re wrong! Ladonna, I love you! If it weren’t for that incident, I’d love you for the rest of my life! I don’t want to hate you either, but I can’t help it…”
Ladonna said, “Layton, I don’t love you anymore. Just let me go, and let yourself go too!”
“Well then, let’s die together!” Layton swerved the steering wheel. A truck came speeding toward them from the front.

In the apartment, Corbin and Cedric had been waiting outside for hours.
Corbin thought, “Mom is nowhere to be found, and Izabella is also missing.
“Could it be that they are deliberately hiding because they don’t want to come to my birthday party?”
Corbin looked extremely dejected and was on the verge of crying. “Daddy, am I not cute enough? Why did Mommy stand me up?”
It was late at night, and the breeze was still a bit chilly.
Seeing Corbin’s lonely back, Cedric sighed, scooped him up, and said softly, “Come on. Let’s go home. Your great–grandpa is waiting to celebrate your birthday.
“That woman is not important. She isn’t your mom. She’s a liar. She has a daughter. Why would she care about you? It’s all fake.”

Every word pierced Corbin’s heart.
He couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst into tears.

“Dad, let’s go. I’ll never come to see her again!” With that, Corbin threw the flowers he had carefully prepared for Ladonna into the trash can.
