Chapter 4
The wolf within me panted, its breath rapid and shallow. Its eyes were fixed on Roland, filled with shock and confusion. It couldn’t believe that these words–betrayal of our mate bond–were actually coming from his mouth.
Yet there was no trace of guilt on his face. Instead, the man who had once shared my bed, my mate, now regarded me as though I were a subject awaiting punishment.
“You really disappoint me, Nadia,” he said, his gaze shifting to Brianna beside him, who clung to him tightly. “You drugged her. No matter what the consequences are, it’s your fault.”
Brianna’s fingers traced slow, mocking

circles across Roland’s chest. Her eyes locked onto me with a cruel gleam. My knees trembled beneath the table, my grip on the edge tight as I tried to steady myself. With a voice laced in bitter sarcasm, I spoke:
“You honestly think I drugged her just so you…” My trembling finger pointed toward him, “…could be the antidote?”
I took a deep breath, narrowing my eyes. “There are many ways to detox her, but-”
“Roland, Brianna suddenly spoke in a soft, fragile tone, her voice breaking as her nails lightly scraped over the bruises on her arm, leaving faint

loves you too much.”
Something inside me snapped. Despite everything, despite having already decided to let Roland go, I couldn’t stand Brianna humiliating me in my own territory like this.
“My moon goddess, Brianna, do you have no shame? You’re in my territory, next to my mate, and now you blame me? Where’s the courtesy you were taught as a child? Did your rich lover devour that too?”
Roland moved. As the words left my mouth, he stood and slapped me across the face, the force of it stinging sharply.
“Enough, Nadia. Brianna hasn’t said a single bad word, but you keep slandering her! You don’t deserve anyone’s sympathy!”
He grabbed my wrist. Gasping for breath, I

stumbled as he dragged me toward the door.
“You like drugging people, don’t you? Then stay here and listen to what happens next!”
He removed his tie, the cold metal pressed against my back, binding my wrist as the knot tightened into my skin.
Before slamming the door, he threw one last sentence over his shoulder.
“You brought this upon yourself. Don’t blame me or Brianna.”
The night fell, and the door slammed shut behind me. I was forced to listen to the sounds from the other side–low groans followed by high–pitched screams. The rhythm was unmistakable, unbroken.
I squeezed my eyes shut, tears quietly

flowing at first. But with each passing moment, the sobs faded, leaving only dryness behind my eyes.
All that remained was a pain in my chest, bitter and corrosive.
Each breath, each cry became another nail in the coffin of what I once called love. “This is the price for loving the wrong person,” I told myself, over and over again.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my abdomen. My knees buckled, unable to bear the weight. I slid down until my wrists, bound tightly, were the only thing keeping me from collapsing. Cold sweat streamed down my back.
I opened my mouth, but the sound that escaped was barely a whisper.

Compared to the laughter and joy filling the room, my weak cries were completely drowned out.
The sounds inside continued, hour after hour.
By the time the door finally opened, the first light of dawn had begun to creep in. Roland stood in the doorway, adjusting his cuffs. “Did you learn your lesson?”
That was the first thing he said. When he received no answer, he looked down–at me, lying motionless at his feet.
He crouched down and touched my cheek- it was burning with fever.
A flicker of panic flashed across his eyes.
He scooped me into his arms, turning toward

the door. But before he could take a step, a lazy voice called from inside the room.
“Roland, you were a bit rough last night. I’m swollen, and you know I can’t ask anyone else for help, right?”
There was no response, so she continued, her tone flat. “Nadia used to get fevers back in college. Just take her to Pack hospital for some medicine. The maid can take care of
her”
Her voice was almost disinterested. “You know my stance. If the maid talks about this, the entire Pack will know. I’ll be ruined.”
My lashes fluttered. I couldn’t move or speak, but I saw everything.
I saw Roland hesitate.

I saw him turn away.
I felt my body being placed into unfamiliar arms… and then everything went black.
When I woke again, the world was a blur of white. The sheets. The lights. The constant beep of a machine beside me.
“Nadia, the doctor said, “You’re three months pregnant. But the pup isn’t very stable. You should-”
“Doctor, I interrupted, my voice firm, “I don’t want this pup. Arrange for an abortion.”
The doctor paused, thinking I was worried about the pup’s health. “Nadia, it’s just an unstable pregnancy. There’s no need for an abortion-”
But my next words made him fall silent.

“My mate cheated. We’ve severed our bond. That’s reason enough for an abortion. Please arrange it today. Thank you.”
The doctor sighed, the advice he’d intended to give stuck in his throat. “Alright. I’ll arrange it as soon as possible.”
Once the Pack doctor left, I picked up my phone and sent a message to Marcus.
