That was when Seth began reading the contents of the invitation closely.
After a few seconds, his hands began trembling slightly. There was a flash of panic in his eyes, and he asked accusingly, “Ryan, are you playing along with her in this act?”
Ryan said impassively, “She’ll be my wife after tonight. You should accept reality, Seth.”
Seth suddenly laughed rather disdainfully. “Luna, you’ve chased after me for ten years. Why would you be willing to marry someone else, especially someone who’s paralyzed from from the waist down?”
I retorted without hesitating, “You’re wrong. In my eyes, he’s much better than you are.”
Seth was furious. He grabbed my wrist and tried to drag me outside.
Ryan was agitated and was about to stand up from the wheelchair.
I wrested myself out of Seth’s grasp and gently pressed my hands on Ryan’s shoulders.
I knew that he was acting, but I guessed that he had a reason for pretending to be paralyzed. I did not want him to be exposed so quickly because of me.
I turned to look at the doors of the banquet hall and said, “The guests are arriving. Don’t embarrass your family, Seth!”
I began pushing Ryan’s wheelchair away.
“Luna!” Seth roared behind me.
“If you turn back now and drop this act, I can pretend that none of this happened. However, if you don’t turn back, I’ll call off the wedding when my parents get here! I’ll make you the laughing stock of the entire city!”
I acted as if I hadn’t heard anything and continued walking forward.
I wouldn’t be the one making a fool of myself tonight.

As it was a wedding that had been brought forward at the last minute, the Garners had rushed back from out of town.
Seth breathed a sigh of relief when he saw them arrive, and he stepped onto the stage.
The guests all turned to look at him.
He straightened his shirt and said scornfully, “I’m sorry for troubling all of you to come tonight. I apologize, but we Garners will never let such a vicious, manipulative woman marry into our family! I now an nounce that I’m calling off my wedding with Luna!”
