Chapter 6
Chapter 6
On his way, he remembered he hadn’t been home for days and
that he was kinda rude last night, so he had his secretary wait in
line for over half an hour at Felicity Bakery to buy Bethany’s
favorite croissants. Worried they would get cold and not taste as
good, he kept them warm in his jacket.
He had no idea what had been going on with her lately. The
house was neglected, her phone was off, and she was nowhere to
be found.
Terrence yanked his tie off in frustration, feeling uncomfortable
all over.
Knowing that women often shopped to cheer up when they
were down, he transferred 300 thousand dollars to Bethany
through his phone.
But then he thought it wasn’t enough, so he sent another 300
thousand.
He typed out a WhatsApp message and hit send.
After that, he took the croissants out of his jacket, went to the
kitchen, and put them on a plate.

Terrence went to the bathroom to take a shower.
Once done, he stood at the sink and put on some shaving cream.
But the razor in his hand felt a bit dull.
This kind of thing never used to happen.
“Bethany!”
Realizing that Bethany wasn’t home, Terrence called out for
Eliza, all annoyed.
She hurried over.
With Bethany not around, there were so many things to do.
She wished Bethany would come back quickly.
Terrence, with his face covered in shaving cream, asked in a deep voice, “Where are the razor blades?”
“What?”
“I’m asking you, where are the razor blades?”
Eliza cast her eyes down and replied cautiously, “Mrs. McConnell usually prepares them herself. I… I’ll go look for them.”
After searching through everything for a good while and

finding them, she came back nervously.
“I couldn’t find them. Mrs. McConnell always changes the blades before you come home. Maybe she forgot this time.”
Terrence raised an eyebrow, looked at the razor in his hand, and
felt even more annoyed.
“Forget it, I’ll make do!”
After Emery got up, he and his dad sat down to eat together.
He had just taken a bite of the oatmeal when he frowned and shouted, “Mom, did you put too much salt in this?”
There was no answer.
Emery called out again, “Mom?”
Terrence drawled, “Stop that. Your mom isn’t home.”
Emery used his smartwatch to call Bethany, but her phone was off.
He asked in a low voice, “Dad, Mom didn’t leave home in a huff, did she?”
“No, she didn’t.”
Terrence knew Bethany wouldn’t love him and Emery

“That’s good. I think Mom’s breakfast tastes better.“”
Neither of them enjoyed this breakfast much. It didn’t taste as
good as usual.
“Dad, Mom made Krista so upset that she left last night. Will she come to see me today?”
“No, she won’t. She twisted her ankle and is in the hospital.”
Emery was worried. “What? Krista twisted her ankle? She must
be in a lot of pain! Dad, could you please take leave for me? I
wanna go see her.”
Terrence said sternly, “No, your studies come first.”
Emery sulkily lowered his head. He usually wouldn’t dare to do what his dad didn’t want. He whispered, “Can I visit her after school?”
“Yeah.”
Emery leaped out of his seat and ran over to Terrence. He hugged
his arm, stood on his tiptoes, and kissed him on the cheek.
“You’re the best! Come pick me up earl after school.▼ ▼ Krista together!”
