- Chapter 8
Terrence put his arm around Krista’s shoulders and led her
inside, his cold voice tinged with a hint of indifference. “She
doesn’t get to call the shots around here!”
Krista half–heartedly followed him in.
Eliza came up. Seeing Terrence with his arm around Krista, she looked kinda awkward.
Last night, when Terrence wanted Krista to stay over, Bethany got upset and didn’t come back all day. And now he was bringing her back again.
Terrence, not seeing Bethany, frowned and asked, “Isn’t Bethany back yet?”
Eliza shook her head.
“Did you call her?”
“Yes, but her phone was off.”
Krista asked Eliza, “Where is Emery’s room?”
“This way, please follow me.”
Chapter 8
Eliza, as the housekeeper, didn’t dare say anything about
Terrence’s business. She led Krista to Emery’s room.
Terrence walked out to the balcony and called Bethany.
Bethany had just lain down on the bed when Terrence’s name
popped up on her phone screen.
Her fingers tightened.
When Terrence heard the call go through, he felt a bit relieved.
The phone rang and rang, but no one picked up. It hung up by itself after a while.
For some reason, Terrence felt a bit uneasy.
Bethany never missed his calls.
No matter what she was doing, she would stop and answer his call.
But this time, she had been gone the whole day.
Krista came out of Emery’s room.
Terrence was on the balcony, staring at his phone with a gloomy look. She pursed her lips and walked over. When she got to him, she smiled, “Can’t you get in touch with Beth?”
Chapter 8
Terrence made a soft, affirmative sound.
“It’s so late, and she can’t talk. It’s not safe for her to be out there.
How about we go look for her? Think about it, where would she
usually go?”
Terrence’s mind went completely blank.
All he knew was that Bethany was a mute orphan.
He knew she liked croissants because he once saw her standing
in line at the entrance of Felicity Bakery.
The line was quite long. She must’ve really loved croissants to wait that long.
Terrence couldn’t help but think back to that morning when he sat in the car, waiting for half an hour for the first time, for his secretary to get the croissants Bethany loved, only to find she wasn’t home when he got back.
“She can’t talk, but everything else is fine. Your foot injury isn’t fully healed yet, so you shouldn’t be moving around outside. You didn’t sleep at all last night. Have an early night tonight.”
With that, he took Krista to the biggest guest bedroom.
After finishing her tasks, Eliza went back to her room. She thought it over and over and finally decided to call Bethany.
Chapter S
Otherwise, someone else might replace her as Terrence’s wife.
Bethany had slept all day and was having trouble sleeping at
night.
When Eliza’s call came in, she hesitated whether to answer it.
Eliza had called during the day as well.
She knew it might have something to do with Emery. After
hesitating several times, she still didn’t pick up.
Eliza finally got the call through, but Bethany wouldn’t pick up,
so she had to send a message: “Mrs. McConnell, please come back
soon. Mr. McConnell brought that woman from last night back.”
When Bethany saw the message, she didn’t feel anything.
Eliza was trying to be nice, urging her to go back and fight for her marriage.
In the past, she would’ve rushed back right away. Even if she knew she couldn’t outdo Krista, she’d try her best.
