Bernadette smiled and said, “You didn’t think I changed my mind, did you?”
“It’s hard to say, after all, you used to love Nolan so much.” Declan
sighed, “I believe you’re rational, but there’s a saying, ‘the longer the night, the more dreams you have.‘ After a while, who can be sure your reason won’t get pushed aside by your feelings? I don’t want to do all this just for someone else to benefit.

Bernadette laughed and said, “Don’t worry, I won’t make a fool of myself for him again. I’m just waiting for the right moment.”
She could imagine how anxious Nolan looked right now, and she was also happy to see him like this.
She wasn’t a good person. She just had to make Nolan go through everything she’d been through.

I just didn’t expect Declan to worry about this too, but thinking about it, it made sense. This thing weighed on both of them like a mountain. Bernadette looked at Declan and said seriously, “When I was at my lowest, you were always there for me. I’m not going to turn around and screw you over, don’t worry. I’m just waiting for the right moment.”
Declan paused, his face looking a bit strange for a moment, then he smiled and said, “Alright, I believe you.”
After they finished this topic, the two of them chatted all afternoon about company management.

skills were way beyond what she had imagined. He had unique ways to handle big–picture stuff and details, and he was super generous, sharing everything he knew without holding back. This really paved the way for her to take over the branch back home later.
These past few days, Bernadette had been looking into the Mallins Group, and there was just endless info to go through. She was so busy every day,– she barely had a moment to deal with anything else.
The higher–ups moved fast, but they still got well prepared. It took less than three days to win everyone over.

Dario paused and laughed, “You and your mom were sometimes really
alike.”
“You had no right to bring her up.” Bernadette scoffed, “You liked her, but still went looking for a lover. Sometimes I just didn’t get you guys…
She stopped halfway and went quiet: “My mom and I were really alike, and Jessica and her mom were really alike too.”
Dario said, “No matter what you think, you’re still my kid. You’re my only kid, and my company is for you too.”
Bernadette sighed, looked down at the papers, and didn’t say anything else.

First, I had nothing to say, and second, I was thinking that it was time to send the message.
Tomorrow was Randy Colfield’s seventy–fifth birthday. He was usually low–key, but this time he actually threw a big party. Anyone with eyes could tell Randy was getting old and wanted to announce his successor.
Bernadette looked at the invitation on the table and smiled.
Randy really valued this birthday banquet, invited a lot of big names in the industry, and helped his two grandsons make connections.
As soon as Bernadette walked in, Randy saw her: “I remember you.”
Bernadette looked down and didn’t answer. When she got married three years ago
Randy had met her once. She wasn’t stingy with her words, and after chatting with Randy for a bit, she finally got to the point.
“Which of my two grandsons do you think was more suited to take over for me?”
Bernadette looked at the two people in the crowd at the party and smiled politely, “This is your family business, I won’t get involved, but…”
She pulled out a document from her hand, it was the cooperation agreement between the Mallins Group and the Crowley Group: “I’m here today to get Declan to sign the contract.”
