“Ignore her; let’s just get engaged. Once we’re engaged, she’ll have to accept it, Marcus thought I was deliberately trying to break up his engagement with Bella.
He was eager to make the engagement official so he could announce it to everyone.
He figured I would finally leave him alone if I could not do anything about this.
However, he did not realise that I had already moved on.
If I were still alive, I would probably be on a plane out of Baytown by now.
“Marcus, why does Maddy dislike me? She nearly pushed me down the stairs once, and now she’s trying to disrupt our engagement party. If your mother finds out, she’ll definitely object.” Bella wept.
Marcus’s face grew stern. “What can she do besides play tricks to sway my mom?”

After all, he never listened to anything I had to say.
He never listened to my explanations when I was alive, and now that I’m dead, it’s even less likely he would.
Marcus and Bella went into the bedroom, leaving me dejected on the couch.
Laughter occasionally spilled from the room, each sound cutting through me like a knife.
I looked down at my stomach, my spirit quivering.
The child that never had the chance to develop disappeared with me.
If Marcus knew I was dead, especially with his unborn child, he would probably laugh it off in his sleep, wouldn’t he?
At last, his problem was solved for him.
At three in the morning, Marcus’s phone buzzed.
“Hello?” Marcus’s tone carried a hint of impatience.
“Mr. Flynn, we’ve discovered a decapitated female body in Nine Rivers Valley. The bracelet on her wrist confirms it’s your sister Madeline. Please come and identify the body.”
Marcus sat up suddenly, his breath heavy.
Outside, lightning illuminated the sky, followed by the rumble of thunder, which triggered a sharp pain in his head.
“Maddy?”
In a flash of lightning, Marcus thought he saw a silhouette in the living room, strikingly similar to Madeline.
I watched Marcus in disbelief, wondering if he could actually see me.
However, Marcus quickly cursed under his breath and grabbed his coat to leave.
In the bedroom, Bella also awoke and stepped out barefoot.
“Madeline, oh, Madeline, don’t blame me. Blame Marcus for being so desirable. What woman wouldn’t want him? I never thought you’d be so naive to take my words seriously. Haha! You brought this on yourself!”

Enraged, I lunged forward, attempting to throttle her while screaming. “You killed me! It was you! I’ll kill you!”

I tried with all my might to attack the woman responsible for my death, but my hands passed right through her, unable to make contact.
I was powerless to exact my revenge,

“The victim was sexually assaulted before her death, and the clothes she was wearing were not hers.”
Standing stiffly by the autopsy table. Marcus responded, “Madeline lost this bracelet two months ago.”
“Are you
u sure this is the one?” asked the detective.
“Yes, it was a family heirloom from my grandmother.” It was meant for the future daughter–in–law of his family. He had given Jit to Madeline when she turned eighteen.
“Madeline has a mole on her right chest,” Marcus said after a lengthy pause, revealing intimate details about my body: “And there’s a red birthmark on the left side of her pubic bone.”
He identified me to the police as his sister.
Yet, it was unsettling how a brother would know such private details.
The polic
police officers exchanged looks of surprise and asked the medical examiner to check the body.
“If what you’ve described doesn’t match, then this body isn’t Madeline’s.”
Marcus closed his eyes, a wave of relief washing over him.
“Mr. Flynn, it seems you’ve been withholding some information from us, the leading detective remarked with a stern look as he led Marcus away.
Td like to understand your relationship with Madeline better. Could you explain that to us?”
