Chapter 14
That night, Kevin insisted John stay in our
guest room.
Kevin excitedly recounted our wedding plans.
John, looking uncomfortable, excused himself
to the guest room.
I finally had a chance to ask Kevin. “John’s
your cousin?”
“He always has been. I just never visited,
being abroad.”
“So you knew about him and me…”
“Of course.”
He grinned. “Why do you think I invited him? I
wallou LU See you will me.
“To make him regret dumping you!”
“Ashley, you’re special to me. I won’t let
anyone take you for granted.”
“Aren’t you worried about him and me?”
“Not at all. I love you. I know you.”
His words warmed me. I hugged him tightly.
The next morning, Kevin went out for
breakfast.
John came to my room.
“You’re doing this to spite me, aren’t you?”
L
“Excuse me?”
He scoffed. “Ashley, drop the act. I’m not
falling for it. I won’t love you again.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
He seemed delusional.
“You skipped my wedding, my son’s party,
and now you’re flaunting your engagement.
It’s all to get back at me, right?”
“Clever, changing your tactics.”
He chuckled.
“But it won’t work.”
<
“BUT IT Won’t work. ̈
I laughed. “John, are you okay?”
“Kevin and I are in love. I didn’t know you
were his cousin.”
“You…”
His face paled.
“Ashley, you used to love me so much.”
“Used to. Not anymore.”
“Since you’re here, give me back my amulet.”
His expression stiffened. He pulled it out,
tossing it to me.
<
“Good that you don’t love me anymore. Now
you won’t bother me.”
Just then, Kevin returned.
I held up the amulet, giving it to Kevin.
“My dad said to give it to the person I love most, so we’ll both be safe.”
I’d planned to give it to John.
Thankfully, I’d seen his true colors in time.
As Kevin accepted the amulet, John’s face
turned to ice.
He stood and left.
