Chapter 60
After Jackson spoke up for me, people stopped criticizing me. Instead, they started mocking William, saying he couldn’t let go and didn’t act like a real man. After the wedding, my mother and I moved into Jackson’s house. Jackson was incredibly good to me. He had even said he would sleep on the floor on our wedding night, but in the end, I had to pull and drag him onto the bed.
Before long, we became a real husband and wife. It was also at this time that I realized marriage could be so sweet and happy. Still, the better he treated me, the more guilty I felt. My conscience bothered me and I wanted to find him and confess everything. However, Jackson shook his head and said, “You don’t need to explain anything. No matter why you married me, I’m thrilled.”}
Hearing that, I couldn’t say anything else. I just made up my mind to spend the rest of my life proving my love for him. Whil as sweet as honey, things weren’t going well for William.
my life was
We learned through the neighbors. It turned out that William had drunk at the wedding party that day. On his way back, he fell off his bicycle. Feeling embarrassed, William didn’t go to the hospital. In the end, he couldn’t bear the pain and went to the hospital, only to find out he had a fracture.
Because it had been too long, the broken bone had already started to heal on its own. Now, it needed to be re–broken and then set again, which was both painful and time–consuming. Once this happened, everyone again felt that I was a femme fatale.}
Actually, they weren’t entirely wrong. No matter what, this matter was related to Jackson and me. If he hadn’t come to our wedding and if he hadn’t been afraid of being laughed at, he wouldn’t have suffered so much. However, in my eyes, he totally brought it on himself. Jackson didn’t see it that way, though. He came home one–day carrying fruit and said, “After all, he fell because he drank at our wedding. We should go visit him.”
I refused without even thinking. “People are already gossiping. If I go see him, it’ll just make things worse. Whether he broke his leg or his neck, it has nothing to do with me! I told you before, I’m your wife now. William and I have nothing to do with each other anymore.” e.”
Jackson nodded. “I know, I know. But if we don’t go, people will say we hold a grudge. So, I’ll go with you. We’ll visit him openly and generously, which will make everyone think we have a clear conscience.“}]
Although I was unwilling to go, I finally agreed to Jackson’s suggestion. Indeed, some things needed to be clarified. Once clarified, we would go our separate ways and never have anything to do with each other again. When we got to the Schneiders‘ house, Jackson waited by the door and told me to go in and check on William. I was just about to knock when I heard William’s and Sofia’s voices from inside.}
I froze, unsure whether to knock or just walk away. In my past life, I often caught William alone with Sofia. Every time, I’d get jealous, barge in and end up causing a huge scene. I originally wanted to leave, but then I thought that if I left now, I would have to come back later. While I was hesitating, the voices inside grew louder. William’s voice sounded a little weak but very firm, “Sofia, now that my engagement with Josephine is gone and she’s married, shouldn’t we also put our marriage on the agenda?“}
Sofia chuckled. “You can’t possibly think that just because you didn’t marry Josephine, I would marry you, right?“}
William was stunned for a long while before he spoke, “Sofia, what do you mean by that?“}
“What do I mean? I’m just using you as free labor. Don’t you even look at your own family background? How could I possibly marry someone like you?“}
