The crowd parted to make way,
A group of Defense Intelligence Agency officers, dressed in uniform, walked straight toward us, glancing at me and then ar Ellis.
“We received a report that a spy is present here. Who filed the report?” one of them asked.
Ellis quickly raised his hand. “I did! 1 did!”
“I’m reporting that former Colonel Maryan Stones has been colluding with foreign spy and exchanging letters with sensitive information!” he declared “This child, along with the letters at my house, are all evidence!”
The officer frowned slightly and waved his hand. “Take them away!”
At his command, the officers behind him immediately stepped forward and restrained Ellis and Jenifer.
Ellis was stunned.
“You’ve got the wrong people!” he shouted. “I’m the one who reported Ir! Maryan’s the spy! Why are you arresting me and Jenifer?”
1 smiled faintly and got up from the bed.
After wiping the dirt from my face, I looked down at them from above.
“Ellis,” I said coolly, “you thought it through pretty well. You planned to switch my baby and then frame me as a spy, so you could clear Jenifer’s name and make me take the fall.”
Ellis’s face instantly tumed deathly pale.
“You–you’re lying! You’re slandering me! he shouted, his voice shaking. “You cheated on me and had a bastard child! I’m your husband–how could ! not know the truth?”

His voice grew louder and more desperate, even causing the officers to hesitate.

Hearing him swear such a vicious oath almost made me laugh out loud from anger.
