Two cops led in a big guy in cuffs.
Haley’s face changed. She trembled.
The man pointed at Haley.
“She told me! She told me to kill that
woman!”
Haley panicked. “I don’t know him!”
“We have the evidence. The bank

A cop said, “We have the evidence. The bank
transfers, the phone records… Just tell us.”
Haley collapsed, mumbling, “I was just
scared. You’re not my real parents. I wanted
you to love me.”
She crawled to them, crying.
“Mom and Dad, I’m so sorry. I won’t do it
again.‘
“Please, don’t let me go to jail!”
Mom and Dad stared at her, horrified.
They pushed her away, shaking their heads.
“We… We killed Sarah for you.”

They turned to me.
“Honey, we’re sorry. We’ll take you home.
We’ll make it up to you.”
I laughed.
“Make up for it? How?”
“Can you bring my sister back?”
“Sarah would be alive if it wasn’t for you, you
gave your life savings to Haley!”
“You killed her!”
I grabbed the disownment papers from my
bag and threw them down.
“We’re not family anymore!”
My chest tightened, and I passed out.
