Her Husband’s Ch 50

Chapter 50

Adam was about to step out of his house when he noticed something that made his stomach drop.

Reporters.

A whole group of them, gathered outside, snapping pictures and whispering among themselves.

His heart raced as panic set in. He quickly stepped back inside, his pulse pounding.

He fumbled with his phone, opening it to check the messages. The screen lit up with a new one from Brenda.

“You think you can escape me? I’ll make sure you’re penniless and miserable. I’ll ruin you, Adam.”

A cold shiver ran down his spine. The words were venomous, threatening everything he had built. His mind raced with thoughts of how to handle this disaster.

Ignoring her messages didn’t seem like enough anymore.

He needed to turn this situation to his advantage, but how?

As Adam paced back and forth, an idea struck him like a lightning bolt.

Why not play on her intelligence? He had already underestimated her, thinking she would be easy to manipulate. But now, he needed to outsmart her, use her own arrogance against her.

He quickly typed a response:

“Brenda, I’ve been thinking. I’m sorry for everything that happened. It wasn’t supposed to be like this.”

He waited for her reply, hoping for a crack in her facade. Moments later, his phone dinged.

“Ha! You think I’m a fool? I’ve had enough of your lies, Adam. Don’t come to me with fake apologies.”

Adam smirked to himself. Perfect. Just as expected. He wasn’t backing down, though.

He typed quickly:

“I’m genuinely curious, Brenda. Why did you lie to Sophie? What did you hope to gain from it?”

The message was simple, but he hoped it would make her spill something valuable. He didn’t have to wait long for her response.

“All I ever wanted was you, Adam. But you’re too stubborn, and now look where we are.”

So, that was it, Adam thought. She was obsessed with him. But what else was she hiding?

An idea popped into his head again, sharper than the last. He typed:

“Are you really pregnant, Brenda? Because I’ve been hearing conflicting stories, and I need to know the truth.”

He held his breath. A moment passed before her reply came through:

“Yes, I’m pregnant, Adam. Why do you think I’m doing all this?”

Adam stared at the screen, contemplating his next move. This was getting interesting.

Why did she lie about the baby being lost? He felt a surge of determination to get to the heart of her manipulation.

He shot off another message:

“Then why did you tell Sophie the baby was lost? Why not tell her the truth?”

This time, there was silence. Adam waited. No response.

He waited a few more minutes, then another idea hit him like a freight train.

Why not take control of the situation completely? He could turn the tables on her, make her believe that everything would go as she wanted, only if she played by his rules.

With a wicked grin, Adam typed:

“I’ll marry you, Brenda. If you can do two things for me.”

He watched as the dots appeared, indicating she was typing a response. He was practically giddy, feeling in control for the first time in days.

“What two things, Adam? What do you want?” Her message came back quickly, her curiosity palpable.

Adam’s finger hovered over the screen, enjoying the power he now held over her. He replied:

“First, I want you to go for a paternity test to confirm if the baby is mine or not. I’ll marry you, but only if you can prove it’s my child. And second, I need you to tell me the whole truth about why you lied to Sophie. Why didn’t you tell her everything?”

He sat back in his chair, waiting for the inevitable explosion. He knew she would go ballistic, but surprisingly, the response he got wasn’t what he expected.

“Deal. Pick our wedding date, and I promise to get the public off your back. I’ll do whatever you want.”

Adam’s eyes widened in shock, and for a moment, his heart skipped a beat. She agreed?

He blinked twice, staring at the phone. Then, without thinking, he let out a loud shriek of victory.

“Yes! Yes, finally! I’ve got her right where I want her!”

His mind raced with possibilities. If he could make her jump through these hoops, he could control the narrative. He would win back his freedom from her, all while keeping his reputation intact.

Adam leaned back in his chair, a wicked grin spreading across his face. This was the turning point. He had finally regained control.
