As soon as Ellis finished speaking, the Nexus Group liaison wasn’t too pleased either–not with her, but with Tate Group’s liaison. With a hint of irritation, they said, “I clearly mentioned Mr. Morty’s preferences. If an executive’s presence was required for corporate photos, his assistant could have stepped in.”
With undeniable proof of their oversight, the Tate Group liaison had no room to deflect blame. They quickly apologized to both the Nexus Group representative and Ellis..
The apology brought up another question. Should they now have Morty’s assistant take his place in the photos? Ellis thought it was unnecessary. Since Morty had already agreed, there was no need to complicate things further.
The Nexus Group liaison seemed hesitant, and Ellis understood why. They were worried about crossing one of Morty’s boundaries. When they mentioned checking with Morty’s assistant before making a final decision, she patiently waited.

Based on what he said, plus Morty’s confirmation, Ellis could finally rest assured for not changing plans. However, Caleb handed her his name card and tried to save her number in WhatsApp.
“Ms. Harper, this is my name card, and my WhatsApp number is there. Please contact me directly if there are any problems in the future. This is to avoid any unnecessary miscommunications and errors.”
Ellis did not hesitate to save each other’s contact as it was for work purposes, which was beyond Caleb’s expectations. He thought he would need to meet her a few times to get her number.
After all, the last time Caleb had accompanied Morty to a meeting at Tate Group, Ellis had outright refused to save Morty’s number in front of everyone. Her tone hadn’t been particularly polite either, practically radiating a “there’s no way in hell I’m adding you” vibe.
Something Morty couldn’t manage, she had pulled off effortlessly. That alone made Caleb unconsciously study Ellis with a bit more curiosity. He wondered what it was about her that made her so different
From the way Morty spoke, it was clear he had known Ellis for quite some time. But while Ellis seemed to have little patience for him, Morty didn’t seem to mind at all.
Last time, Caleb had already been curious about Morty’s relationship with Ellis. Now, he was even more intrigued because the way Morty treated Ellis was noticeably different from how he treated everyone else.
As Ellis finished saving Caleb’s contact, she looked up only to find Caleb studying her with interest.
Since she could easily tell what kind of look someone was giving her, and Caleb’s gaze seemed friendly and without malice, Ellis pretended not to notice.
But his hesitant expression caught her off guard.
When their eyes met, Caleb didn’t hold back. “Ms. Harper, have you added Mr. Morty?”
It would be awkward if he had managed to add Ellis on WhatsApp, but Morty still hadn’t.
Ellis was speechless. Memories she would rather forget came rushing back…

Fortunately, aside from the last–minute hiccups before the start, everything else went smoothly. When the ceremony ended, she finally allowed herself to relax… Until she spotted Amelia sidling up to Morty, trying to cozy up to him.

Ever since Amelia had tried to set her up with a rich young man while also attempting to pry information about Morty through her, Ellis had developed a poor opinion of her. The way Amelia behaved was off.
But Morty clearly had no patience for her antics. Instead of acknowledging Amelia, he turned away and addressed Lois directly. “Madam Lois, this employee of yours has questionable intentions. I would suggest firing her. Otherwise, she will only bring trouble.”
