Ellis had no idea what his deal was. Bored, she glanced toward the front.
To her surprise, the driver was way too perceptive. That single, casual look from her, and he immediately raised the partition. splitting the car into two private spaces.
“Some people just have no self–awareness,” Morty suddenly grumbled, his irritation deepening.
Ellis turned to look at him. Just how much does he hate people like Amelia?
Resting her chin on her hand, she gazed out the window and said, “Amelia wanted to get close to you, but she failed. She lost. her job before she even got started. And you’re still not satisfied?”
“Of course not! Did she seriously think she was even remotely worthy of me?”

Fighting the urge to be sarcastic or mean, she rolled her eyes before finally saying, “With someone like you, who has everything going for, it’s normal for people to be interested. I wouldn’t exactly call it ‘taking advantage.”
“If I’m not mistaken, Amelia has a boyfriend.” When Amelia approached him in the Tate Group back then, Morty did not recall when he had seen Amelia before. But later, he remembered that Mr. Cooper from Prosperity Group was her boyfriend; Morty wasn’t blind.
Ellis knew Amelia was taken.

That scumbag Easton was Morty’s childhood friend. When he cheated on Ellis in their marriage, Morty didn’t even utter a word or say that he hated unfaithful men.
Ellis had no interest in witnessing Morty’s blatant double standards, so she turned back to the scenery outside. With a hint of sarcasm, she said, “No one’s stopping you from finding a girlfriend who’s completely loyal to you. Maybe save the complaints for when you actually get cheated on.”

She raised an eyebrow. “From the way you’re talking.. don’t tell me you’ve been cheated on before?”
Morty paused for a brief moment before he answered. “Nope”
“Then why are you babbling so much nonsense?” Ellis didn’t want to hear him speak anymore. Amelia didn’t really cause any damage to him, and she got her punishment as well. He didn’t have to keep whining.
“I mean, I’ve never dated.”
Ellis didn’t know what to say, and she could feel the awkwardness in the air once again.

“You’ve never been in a relationship and never been cheated on. You’re just talking nonsense at this point.” Ellis wrinkled her nose in pure disdain. “Mr. Morty, do me a favor and shut your mouth. I need some peace and quiet.”
“You got something against lifelong singles?”
“I have something against you. Lifelong singles are fine.”
Oops. That one slipped out. Ellis cleared her throat, hoping to cover up the awkwardness
Morty’s expression flickered between annoyance and disbelief, like he couldn’t decide whether to be offended or let it slide. In the end. he gave up and turned toward the window, pretending to admire the scenery.
Ellis, unable to stand the thick awkwardness, pressed the button to lower the partition to summon a third party into their suffocating little world.
There was nothing she could do, her mouth was just faster than her brain. She didn’t mean to discriminate against Morty.
Come to think of it. Morty and Easton were the same age, both 27, yet he was still single since birth. That was pretty fascinating.
Was it because his standards were too high, and he found no one good enough, leading to this lifelong single status Logically speaking, no matter how high his standards were or how ridiculous his expectations, he was still a human being. He couldn’t possibly resist the natural instinct of liking someone. Had Morty never felt his heart race for anyone!
If he had ever felt attracted to someone, there was always a chance that feeling could develop into something more. eventually leading to a relationship
But with Morty’s insufferably snarky personality, maybe every time he got close to someone he liked, they couldn’t stand his attitude and left as soon as possible.
