“She’s not here. Whatever it is, you can tell me, Maya said, wondering if sending the video to Easton had been a mistake.

The unexpected question caught Maya and Ellis off guard. They exchanged glances, each spotting a flicker of surprise in the other’s eyes.
After a brief pause, Maya let out a confused, “Wait, what?”
I can’t offer you an explanation, Easton said flatly. “All I can say is that Victoria will face the consequences she deserves.” “Wait, what?” Maya’s second “what” sounded even more baffled than the first.
Ellis was just as confused.
If she hadn’t been pretending not to be with Maya, she would’ve asked Easton directly what he meant.
The whole point of sending the video to Easton was to mess with him a little, letting him see just how drastically Victoria had changed, not to hear him seriously say that Victoria would get what was coming to her.
Besides, what kind of punishment was Victoria supposed to get, and from whom?
What the hell was that scumbag even talking about?
Before they could make sense of it, the call ended. Maya turned to face Ellis, gently patting her bewildered face. “Do you understand what Easton meant?”
“Not a clue,” Ellis replied, snapping the lid back onto her skincare jar. “Whatever. Forget that scumbag and his sidepiece. Let’s just get some sleep.”
As far as she was concerned, the goal had been achieved. Easton hadn’t shown much reaction, and she had no maintaining even indirect contact with her ex–husband.

Lying in bed, Ellis instinctively scrolled through her phone, a routine she used to lull herself to sleep.

Once she felt drowsy, she tucked her phone under her pillow, cleared her mind, and quickly drified off into a deep sleep.
On his way home, Easton couldn’t resist replaying the video of Victoria slapping Ellis over and over again. Each time he watched, different emotions stirred within him, but one feeling remained constant.
No matter how bad Ellis’s temper had been, no matter how many times she lashed out at him in frustration, he had never once raised a hand in retuTTI.
He had never once fought back, so what right did Victoria have to lay a hand on her?
The car slowly came to a stop in the open space in front of the main entrance of Sunshine Estates. Ronnie turned his head toward Easton in the back seat and reminded him, “Mr. Hudson, we’re here.”
After speaking, Ronnie promptly stepped out of the car and opened the rear door.
Easton stared ahead, unsure of what was on his mind. It was supposed to be a straightforward ride home, yet somewhere along the way, he had a sudden change of heart, almost as if on impulse and told Ronnie to stop by Sunshine Estates first.
The video clearly showed a timestamp, indicating that Victoria had hit Ellis earlier today.

Just then, a pair of long, straight legs stepped onto the pavement one after the other.
A tall, lean figure cast a shadow across Ronnie’s line of sight. Realizing it was Easton stepping out of the car, Ronnie quietly moved aside, watching as Easton walked into the Sunshine Estates until he disappeared from view.
Having been to Sunshine Estates a few times before, Easton knew exactly where Ellis’s unit was
The door was firmly shut, but a faint glow spilled out from the gap at the bottom, a clear sign that Ellis was home.
Recalling the last time he had entered her unit without a word, ended up sleeping in her bed, and woke up to
