“I was called here by my friend; she’s inside,” Ellis explained, showing the doorman the message from Maya on her phone. “Room 888, can I go in?”
“Is your friend a member?” the doorman inquired.
Caught off guard by the question, Ellis hesitated. Given Maya’s income level, it was highly unlikely she could afford a membership at such an upscale place.
What was she supposed to do to get in?
Seeing Ellis silent, swayed perhaps by her visibly distressed yet striking appearance, which naturally elicited sympathy, the doorman suggested, “If your friend is a member, maybe she can come out and bring you in.”
But she couldn’t reach Maya!
As she fretted over what to do next, Ellis spotted a familiar face.
“Cameron!” she called out to the figure.
Cameron, who had had his fill of the night’s festivities and was on his way home, looked around reflexively when he heard his name, spotting Ellis standing anxiously beside the doorman.
“Mrs….” he started to call her ‘Mrs. Hudson‘ out of habit but corrected himself, remembering her divorce, “Ellis.”
Thinking Ellis was just greeting him, Cameron responded accordingly. However, Ellis quickly pointed at him and told the doorman, “This is also a friend of mine.”
Then she turned to Cameron and asked, “Cameron, are you a member here?”
Unsure of what Ellis was up to but confirming truthfully, Cameron said, “I am.”
“Could you take me to Room 888?” Ellis pleaded with her hands clasped together. “Please?”
Although Ellis was no longer Easton’s wife, she was still an acquaintance of several years, and Cameron was willing to help her with this small request.
He reversed his direction and said, “Sure, follow me.”
“Thank you!” Ellis hurriedly followed Cameron.
She entered the club by following the rules, with no improper conduct, and Cameron’s membership was legitimate. The doorman gestured welcomingly for Ellis to proceed.
Seeing Ellis’s urgent demeanor and even urging him to walk faster, Cameron asked, puzzled, “Is it that urgent?”
“Extremely urgent!” Not knowing what might have befallen Maya, Ellis wished she could fly directly to her side.
“Huh?” Cameron paused mid–step. “What are you going to do?”
“Don’t worry about what I’m doing,” Ellis replied, unsure of how to explain the situation to Cameron.
“Alright.” Cameron, not wanting to pry further and seeing Ellis was reluctant to discuss it, took her to the door of Room 888 and then walked away.
After distancing himself from Ellis, he called a close friend. “I just saw Easton’s ex–wife. She looked so pitiful. She used to be so celebrated and admired, and now she needs help even to get into a club. Why would she think of divorcing Easton?”
The news of Easton and Ellis’s divorce, initiated by Ellis, was common knowledge.
Wasn’t she regretting not being the glamorous Mrs. Hudson anymore, having to ask for help like any ordinary person?
Morty, focusing on different details than Cameron, immediately asked, “Which club? What is she doing?”

“Dude, your focus is curious.”
“And the second question, answer it.”
“I don’t know what she’s doing, but she seemed really panicked, maybe she’s in some trouble.”
“Give me her exact location.”
“Huh: She’s in Room 888, you-”

Before he could finish, the call ended abruptly, leaving Cameron puzzled. After doing Ellis a small favor and reflecting on how much her life had changed, he was curious about why she left Easton and wanted to gossip with Morty, but Morty had hung up unexpectedly.
Soon, Morty called back.
As Cameron swiped to answer, he figured Morty might have had a bad connection carlier.
Unexpectedly, Morty asked, “Are you still with Ellis, or…?”
Morty didn’t use the formal ‘Madam Sophia‘ as he usually might, which was odd enough, but his tone seemed unusually personal.
Confused even further, Cameron listened as Morty instructed, “Is she in trouble? Stay with her, help her out. I’m on my way. Don’t leave before I get there.”
Suddenly, Cameron was utterly bewildered.
What was going on with Morty? Why did he seem so concerned about Ellis? Were Morty and Ellis close? Puzzled, Cameron turned back.
At that moment, the door to Room 888 opened, and the situation inside became fully visible.
He didn’t go in but just approached the door and saw Ellis standing protectively next to a woman dressed in business attire.
