Even if others saw Ellis in a negative light, he knew her character; she had done nothing inappropriate during Victoria’s time as his fiancee.
Ellis was innocent, and Victoria had no right to tarnish her reputation. Sitting in the car and watching as Victoria stubbornly refused to walk, forcing the police to carry her to the vehicle, Easton’s thoughts drifted.
How blind is grandfather to have chosen such a fiancee for me? And how blind had I been, deceived by Victoria for so long, not seeing the malice beneath her respectable appearance?
