The reason he acted this way was because he knew Ellis’s love for vanity and her manipulative nature. He suspected that someday she might tire of their marriage and aim to divorce, taking a hefty portion of his wealth to live a carefree life. He would never give her that chance.
“If you two don’t divorce, the premup is indeed just a piece of paper; but if you ever want a divorce, Ellis won’t get anything. The terms are too harsh on her.” Sophia hoped her son and Ellis would have a lifetime of harmony, but she still wanted to nullify the premuptial agreement eventually.
“We’ll see about that. As long as we’re not divorcing, she’s still my wife and will enjoy the benefits.” Easton glanced at his watch. “There’s a senior management meeting I need to get to. Mom, I’ve got to go.”
Sophia agreed that the premp didn’t apply if they stayed married. She couldn’t get her son to void it now, but maybe she could push for it later.
“You go handle your business.”
After hanging up with Easton and returning to the living room, Sophia saw Ellis still tearful yet hopeful. She cleared her throat uncomfortably. “Ellis, Easton is grown up and has his own ideas, which I can’t control. You’re his wife; you should try talking to him. Married couples shouldn’t hold grudges overnight.”
Ellis was stunned by Sophia’s sudden change of heart. Wasn’t Sophia supposed to be helping me get justice from Easton on the phone? Is this a sudden shift in allegiance? Was this visit just a test to see if playing the victim would get me to help? Now it proves futile; I can’t compare to her own son.
Ellis controlled the spreading disappointment within her.
Picking up a tissue, she carefully wiped away her tears and managed a somewhat natural smile.
At that moment, Sophia, seeing Ellis stop crying and obviously forcing a smile, felt helpless.
Her son had no thoughts of divorce and wasn’t adopting a more appropriate approach to dissuade Ellis from divorcing, leaving her no choice but to temporarily side with him.
“Have some water, calm down,” Sophia handed Ellis a glass of water. “One of these days, I’ll give Easton a piece of my mind for you.”
Ellis understood the superficial nature of Sophia’s offer.
After finishing her water in one go, she stopped demeaning herself and packed her things back into her bag “Mom, I should get back to work and not keep you.”
“Won’t you stay a bit longer?” Sophia asked, trying to keep her.
“Another time.”
Watching Ellis leave, Sophia knew she was upset but couldn’t address it directly. That boy better not pu hard and know when to back off!
At Petal Estates, arriving at Casey’s home, Ellis couldn’t find him and had to search the whole house.
As she searched, her spirit flagged. Was her life doomed to be forever marred by that despicable man’s actions, with Sophia unwilling to help?

With her husband’s nature, losing her job with an annual salary of 140,000 dollars seemed inevitable. She wasn’t going to babysit this troublesome kid any longer.
“You are stupid! The last time your husband barged in here, you denied he was your husband, called him a pervert, and said to keep your marital games at home, not here!” Casey’s grievances against Ellis continued from a previous incident.
