Chapter 102
The timing of Mona’s appearance was just too perfect to be a coincidence.
Maxine rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on, and Pandora popped into her mind without her even realizing it.
But the lawsuit between Urban and her was already over. Pandora wasn’t stupid. She wouldn’t go looking for trouble over
something like this.
She pulled out her phone, almost texting Cleo to ask her to check on things back home, but after typing it out, she ended up
deleting the message.
Her fingers traced the edge of her phone as she thought, ‘It couldn’t be Gabriel either. For a guy like him, if he really wanted to cause trouble, he’d just hire someone outright instead of bothering with Mona.
‘Besides, when everything happened with my family, hardly anyone back home even paid attention.
Compared to a shocking murder, a fraud case was just a few lines in the news. When the suspect killed themselves, people just shrugged and said, “Serves them right.”
Even if someone started digging for answers back home, they’d probably wouldn’t find a single clue.
Maxine was jolted awake early the next morning by a call from Cleo. Cleo sounded super anxious, and as soon as Maxine picked up, she blurted out, “Did your mom come looking for you?”
Maxine was a bit confused but still answered, “She did come find me outside after the hearing yesterday, but I just ignored her.”
Cleo couldn’t help but curse on the other end, then explained, “Someone posted about you and your mom online. It’s starting to get a lot of attention. Do you want me to help?”
Cleo sent over some screenshots and a link on Twitter. The screenshots showed people online talking about Urban suing his half–sister.
The link was to a video posted by a verified account, with the title: [Is Urban’s Lawyer Shady?]
Cleo said, “You should keep an eye on this. There are a few people defending you in the comments, but if you just let it go, it could get messy.”
Maxine searched the topic on Twitter and saw that the influencer’s video was getting more and more popular, just like Cleo said. The comments were full of people calling her ungrateful, saying she talked back to her mom,,and even insulting others.
But there were also people saying the influencer was in the wrong for filming her without permission in the first place.
Maxine scrolled through the comments, frowning in disgust. She was pretty sure this verified account was the same influencer who secretly filmed her yesterday.
She clicked into their profile and sent a direct message demanding they take the video down. At the same time, she told Cleo, “Thanks. I’ll handle it.”
It was just a run–of–the–mill copyright issue. Cleo couldn’t care less. What really had her worried was Maxine’s mom. “Want me to dig into it for you? Your mom showing up out of the blue is definitely off. Maybe someone’s behind this, trying to stir up trouble for you.”
In a way, she and Maxine were thinking the exact same thing.
Cleo had connections everywhere, so with her help, they might get answers fast. Maxine nodded. “Thanks, Cleo. Once this is all over, dinner’s on ….
Cleo burst out laughing on the other end. “Come on, don’t be so formal! If you end up going abroad, just remember to introduce me to some cute guys, okay?”
Maxine laughed too, and was just about to tease her when someone knocked on the door.
The building’s security guard was at the door, looking relieved to see her. “Miss Hudson, there’s a woman with a kid making a scene at the entrance. She says she’s your mother.”

Maxine froze for a second, then said into the phone, “Something’s come up here. I’ll call you back in a bit
Cleo quickly replied, “Go! If you need anything, just call me.”
It wasn’t until Maxine followed the guard to the entrance that she realized calling it making a scene was putting it way too mildly
