Chapter 115
“Alright, I’ll be relying on you for a bit,” Maxine sighed.
Cleo bumped her with her elbow. “Come on, what are friends for? I’ll call the movers right now. Just pack up your stuff and we’ll head out
Maxine was a little surprised by how quickly Cleo jumped into action, but she had to admit she was right. Better to make a clean Break now, or else Jessica might get caught up in this too.
Maxine and Jessica didn’t have much, just two suitcases with their essentials. The rest would be sorted by a cleaning service and sent over to Clee’s place later.
Just as they were about to head out, Urban showed up.
He spotted the two big suitcases in the living room and raised an eyebrow. “Need a hand, Mrs. Mason?”
His words carried a double meaning, not just about moving, but also the mess online and at her door. “I saw what was left outside your place. If you want, I can help clean it up.”
Maxine pressed her things into the suitcase, her face expressionless. “No, thanks. I can handle it myself.”
Right now, all she wanted was to get as far away from this mess as possible. For all she knew, Mona might have been sent by the Soto family.
Maybe he’d already guessed she’d refuse, because Urban just walked into the living room, bent down, and picked up her suitcase. “Perfect timing. I’m heading out too. Let me give you a ride.”
Maxine frowned, about to turn him down, but Urban added, “Someone paid to boost Mona’s account. You’re still in the middle of all this. If you go out now, someone might recognize you.”
Maxine paused, remembering the mess that had been thrown at her door.
Urban hefted the suitcase. “Come on, don’t say no. It’ll be safer if I take you.”
As they stepped outside, Maxine realized he’d brought a Range Rover today, and there were four bodyguards waiting by the car. The one she recognized took their things and loaded them into the trunk.
“Let’s go,” he said with a smile, catching her expression. Then, a bit embarrassed, he added, “I mean, I’m here to protect you. How could I not bring a few bodyguards? Don’t worry, they’re all ex–military. Nothing’s going to happen.”
Maxine’s lips twitched. She wasn’t worried about her own safety anymore. Honestly, she was more concerned that those troublemakers might get sent straight to the ICU.
But even if they did, it’d just count as excessive self–defense in court.
Seeing the faint smile on Maxine’s face, Cleo suddenly felt a chill run down her spine.
Once they were in the car, Urban asked, “So, what’s your plan now? You promised you’d come to work at my firm, remember? At least show up for a few days.”
Maxine thought it over. With Ivanna’s case still unresolved, there was no way she’d take Jessica out of the country. She didn’t have much else to do for now, so she might as well check out the firm. It’d be a good way to repay Urban’s help.
The car pulled up outside Cleo’s place, and the bodyguards helped carry their things upstairs,
Cleo’s home was a cozy little duplex. Urban had the bodyguards help them get settled, then turned to Maxine. “I’ll leave someone here to keep an eye out. They’ll take shifts, so just free up a spare room for them.”
Maxine instinctively wanted to refuse, but Cleo chimed in, “It’s fine. Who knows, maybe someone will sniff us out in a few days.”

She had a point. Urban grinned and said, “Think of it as a perk for my star employee.
